MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

On Tuesday, August 4th, the City Council met for more than four hours to discuss the draft budget and the appropriate tax rate for FY2016. The actual rate setting is scheduled to take place at the Council meeting at 2:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon, August 5th. Public rate hearings will be posted, and community input is always appreciated.

The Council also reviewed in great detail the proposed FY2016 budget for the Hidden Falls complex. The golf course looks great, but we must plan for the replacement of the expensive machinery that is required to maintain the course. Right now, renovations are proceeding on the Hidden Falls Restaurant, including replacing all of the single-paned windows in the main dining room with energy efficient double-paned windows.   The long overdue removal of the very leaky chimney on the back of the building began this week. Once the top stones were removed, it was immediately apparent WHY so much water was coming into the main dining room whenever we got any rain. All of the exterior stones are being removed, so the fireplace will no longer be wood burning. Instead, it will have a much safer electrical insert. Installation of new flooring and painting inside and out are yet to be completed, but we hope to have the building completely open for business by next week.

In the meantime, the kitchen and bar are still open for business!

October 31st is when terms on City Boards and committees end. I hope you will think very seriously about volunteering to serve on the entity that best fits your experience and interests. Call our City Secretary, Christy Fath (830-693-6840) or go by City Hall (177 Broadmoor) for more information. Applications are due at City Hall by no later than Monday, August 31st.
