MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

NCTV's team arrived shortly after I turned in my Mayor's Corner last week. They had service back up for my neighbors and me by 5:30 PM on Tuesday of last week.

We had a series of car thefts last week. It is believed that all of the vehicles were unlocked since no windows were broken. Taken were checks, cash, credit cards, a loaded pistol, etc. If you cannot park inside a locked garage, please be sure to lock your vehicle and make sure no valuables are in plain sight. Something similar happened last year over the Memorial Day weekend. Those individuals were ultimately caught. It turned out that they were Meadowlakes residents, so we cannot assume that having guards at the gate makes thefts impossible. However, we are lucky that criminal activity is rare.

A few months ago, the Council looked into hiring a full-time city employee assigned to prevent and handle crime, but the very small chance that our own employee would be at the right place - at the right time - to prevent such occurrences made it not logical or cost effective. Instead, residents should call the Burnet County Sheriff's office to report any crimes. The City contracts with off-duty Sheriff's Dept. officers to patrol the streets at random times.

I've been asked why the Meadowlakes street repair took so long. The POA is responsible for our streets, and for the parks, the storage area (for motor homes, boats, etc.) and the entry gate. First, no one expected it to rain for days on end. The prep work was completed; it rained and rained, and then the paving company couldn't get asphalt delivered as promised, and it rained and rained some more. They found a new source and fixed the two intersections on Meadowlakes Drive (at Columbine and Mahan). This is just the beginning of a huge project. Join me in the audience at the monthly POA meetings for updates (third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at City Hall).

Feel free to call me with any suggestions or questions. FYI: I'm better at checking my home e-mail than my City e-mail. You can reach me at marinctx@nctv.com or on my home phone at 830-693-6135. I have not yet graduated to an iPhone, so I don't text or take photos with my old timey flip phone. I know it is long past the time for me to upgrade!

REMODELING PROJECTS

Before starting a remodeling project or having a roll-off dumpster placed on property, please submit a scope of work to the City Secretary, Christy Fath, at City Hall, for review in determining if a building permit is going to be needed or not.  A lot of projects end up being more involved than first anticipated, so it's always best to check to see if you need a permit before starting a project to avoid any citations and fines.  We appreciate your cooperation on this matter.

WEBWORM CONTROL COOP UPDATE

Meadowlakes Webworm Control Coop - Update

A few webworm "webs" are already starting to appear in trees on Meadowlakes Drive and San Saba Street. Spotting webs in May is unusually early based on recent years' experience in Meadowlakes. The Coop will continue close monitoring of this development and will keep property owners updated using the email addresses you supplied. For those yet to supply an email addresses; email me and I will include you in all future updates.

The Coop has incorporated all property owner payments as a result of receipts collected from the April billing cycle. These receipts coupled with prior year carryover credits result in 336 out of the 413 total properties with pecan trees being funded for the first spray of the webworm season. There are however, 77 properties that are not funded as of this date. For property owners who have yet to decide to participate in the upcoming spray, there is still time; so please return you letters with payment and you will be included in the upcoming spray.

The recent "wetter" than normal weather is very conducive to increased webworm infestations. The Coop encourages all who have pecan trees to participate in the spray program. Call or email me if you have questions.
