MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

I'm pretty sure this has been the rainiest spring since I moved here in January of 2007.  The grass is green and our flowers and trees (and weeds) are thriving.  In the orchard area, the pecan trees are already fully leafed out, and baby pecans will soon add to the weight of the limbs.  Last Friday morning, my walk took me by the corner of Stewart and Sly (which may be the shortest street in Meadowlakes) shortly after the garbage truck took out a huge limb when it turned that corner.  Luckily the truck wasn't damaged and no one was injured.  I'm just glad the limb didn't fall on a school bus.  Everyone jumped into action, and city staff made sure the limb was out of the way quickly.  Such a great team!

Anyway, this reminded me that it is the homeowner's responsibility to make sure no limbs are within 14' of the street.  As the pecans grow, the limbs will be much heavier, and the rain makes them grow even faster.   Our ordinance control officer soon will begin measuring any limbs that appear to be too close to the street.  No one wants to get a warning letter...and especially not a ticket, followed by a trip to the judge and a fine...so now is the time to get those tree limbs out of the way!

Long-time POA gate guard Ben Berg has been missing from his regular post for several weeks.  Ben died on Monday, and there will be a service for him this Sunday at Hidden Falls Restaurant at 1:00 PM.  We will all miss Ben's "tip of the hat" as we entered our very special hometown.

Mary Ann Raesener
Mayor

WATERING VIOLATIONS

It is standard policy that when watering restrictions are not being followed, for the first violation, Ordinance Enforcement will send the resident a warning letter advising of the possible oversight of the watering restrictions.  The warning letter advises the resident if a second or third violation occurs, a citation will be issued.

If a citation is issued for violating the watering restrictions two or more times, a mandatory court appearance is required and you will be assessed a fine plus court costs as set out in the schedule below:

Second Violation: Citation and Fine of up to $250 plus Court Costs of $61.00

Third Violation: Citation and Fine of up to $500 plus Court Costs of $61.00

ALL residents are encouraged to ensure that their sprinkler systems are set correctly to avoid notices and possible citations.  Please remember that if your system is unplugged or the electricity goes off, it will reset itself when turned back on and will need to be reprogrammed.  There will be no leniency for systems set incorrectly.
