MAYOR'S CORNER
| |
Greetings!
Rain is good. Spring rain will help those bluebonnets and other wildflowers burst into bloom very soon. The pear trees ignored the cold and are in full flower. I know the weeds in my yard are energized. I'm not a golfer, but I'm told the course is pretty soggy right now, and that makes it easier to damage the grass, especially on the greens and the tee boxes. If you are playing our course, please take extra care!
The City Council went into closed executive session Tuesday evening to discuss options for golf course management. The City of Meadowlakes bought the golf course in March of 2008. The course and its facilities were in bad shape at that time, and it cost the City a lot to rehabilitate it and replace equipment, but it was imperative that the City actually own the golf course. That is where we put our treated wastewater...a win-win, since that keeps the course watered, when many others are paying dearly for water...and if we didn't have the golf course, we'd have to pay millions to have the treated waste water hauled off or to treat it enough to put it back into circulation.
A year and a half after the purchase, it was decided to establish the Meadowlakes Public Facility Corporation (PFC) to run the facility, including the restaurant, bar, tennis courts and swimming pool, along with the golf course. Every couple of years, the Council reviews the situation to be sure the operations are the best possible arrangement, for our citizens and our future. It is time for that review to take place again.
In the near future, our Council will hold a joint workshop with the PFC Board as we review current operations, future plans and get ready for the FY2016 budget. Such meetings will be open to the public, and your input will be appreciated, either in writing or in person.
