MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

The U.S. flag at the Meadowlakes gate was getting a bit bedraggled, so it was replaced recently. Several citizens have U.S. flags in their yard, usually with a light on the flag so they don't have to take it down every evening. Flags do wear out, especially when it is very windy, and when they are replaced, the flag that is being retired requires special treatment. The Boy Scouts usually have a flag-burning ceremony at least once a year, but to make it easier for our citizens, the City will accept your worn out flags and care for them until they can be retired correctly. Just drop the flag off at City Hall.

Another item that requires special care when it dies - one that we all have - is a battery, whether it is AA, AAA, or any other size (other than a car battery). They should not be tossed in the trash where they will end up in a landfill...so the City will also accept your dead batteries. Just drop them in a box that will be set up for this purpose inside City Hall.

Good ideas are always welcome. Even crazy ideas sometimes turn out to be brilliant! If you have an idea you would like us to consider, my home phone number is 830-693-6135.

A NOTE FROM ANIMAL CONTROL

Because of the cooler weather during the past few weeks, there have been several sightings of raccoons and one fox acting suspiciously during the daytime. Two raccoons and one fox that showed signs of being sick were taken in for rabies testing; the results were all negative.

But the fact is that they were all sick, and they were roaming around in the daytime. All residents are being asked to take the following precautions:

  • If you have a dog or cat as a pet, make sure the rabies vaccination is current.
  • Be cautious of skunks, bats, foxes, or raccoons that are acting strangely particularly if they are active in daytime.   If you observe any strange animal behavior, contact the Meadowlakes Animal Control Officer whose contact information is listed below.
  • If you think your dog or cat may have been in contact with a skunk, bat, fox, or raccoon, contact your vet for a recommendation about a possible rabies booster shot.
  • Advise your children to avoid unfamiliar animals or any animal that is acting strangely.

Thanks,

Robbie Galaway
