MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

This Sunday, December 14th, Santa will be at Hidden Falls Restaurant from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, so bring the kids! They can visit with Santa without eating, but the restaurant will be serving another delicious buffet from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM. You really need to make reservations - call 830-693-4467! They will have pot roast, fried chicken tenders, redskin mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, garden salad, assorted desserts, and non-alcoholic beverages...for just $8.95 for adults and $4.95 for children...best deal around!

The City Council at its December 9th regular meeting heard the report of the committee that was appointed to look into whether Meadowlakes should have its own police department. There are around 910 homes in the City of Meadowlakes now. Our crime rate continues to be very low, with the exception of speeding and failure to come to a full stop at stop signs. The speed limit is 25 MPH throughout the City, unless there is a sign saying it is less.

The results of the poll of the community were 2 to 1 against establishing a police department. Instead, The City will ask the Sheriff's Department deputies who already work for the City of Meadowlakes when they are off duty to focus on the times of day when our radar equipment indicates there are the most drivers recording speeds greater than 5 miles over the speed limit. These speedy drivers are going by the radar wagon, on average, more than 600 times per month (20+ times a day), primarily in the mornings between 7:00 and 8:00 AM as we are leaving the neighborhood for school or work. Please slow down!

"TOTTIES FOR TOTS" THANK YOU

A huge thank you to the "Totties for Tots" Meadowlakes social club for such a wonderful donation to Highland Lakes Christmas is for Kids toy drive. The Totties for Tots annual Christmas party brought in over 100 toys and a dozen bikes, along with some speciality items as well.

We are so grateful for the many years of friendship and support and we think of our favorite heavenly teddy bear (and party founder), Greg Gatz and his precious wife, Karen, every time we send out a bag to help a family in need. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Merry Christmas to all.

HELPING CENTER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Helping Center is looking for a few good folks.....

The Helping Center is headed into their busiest time of the year and they are finding themselves a little short handed. The illness of a key volunteer has left a lot of slack in their days.

The Helping Center is the local food pantry for many people in our area. The current need for volunteers is over a wide range of talents. The greatest is for folks (male or female) to stock shelves and fill bag orders. There is also an ongoing need for data entry and filing. If there is someone around that has talent in website design, they could use some of your time also. The Helping Center is located just down Avenue N at the intersection with Broadway so you could be there in less than 5 minutes from the time you walked out of the house. Their hours are 10 am to 12 noon Monday thru Friday, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Monday thru Thursday and closed on Friday afternoons. Stop by and talk to Sam Pearce and see what talents you have to offer. Better yet, take a friend or neighbor along! The main thing to remember is that they will take whatever time you have to offer, from hours daily to minutes weekly.   They are located at 1315 Broadway St, right across from Janie's Mexican Restaurant. Phone 830-693-5689
