LIONS CLUB ANNUAL COAT DRIVE
| | The Marble Falls Noon Lions Club has kicked off its Annual "COATS FOR KIDS" drive and would greatly appreciate any donations of coats from the public, for children (Size 0 thru school children sizes). There is a need for caps and gloves too. The Lions Club typically distributes about 600 coats per season at no cost to deserving families. You may leave your new or gently used coats, caps and gloves in a special box located at the Meadowlakes security gate and other businesses in Marble Falls. These coats are for the Marble Falls area and help children that would not have a coat without your generosity. Thanks to the generous public that donate coats and money to buy some of the new coats that are distributed. This is the 30th Anniversary of the Marble Falls Lions Club and your support is greatly appreciated so that they can continue to help others! |

MAYOR'S CORNER

The storm last week apparently let the pecan trees know it is time to start dropping limbs, leaves and pecans! Those of us who live in the orchard had a lot of limbs and leaves...and almost-ripe pecans...to pick up. As a reminder, although you can put bags of leaves on your lawn BESIDE the curb for up to 14 days, they should never actually be on the street, blocking the gutters, in case of another big rain. I don't like the look of bags on my driveway, so if they won't fit in the big blue bin, I put them out of sight. Or if I'm lucky, a neighbor may allow me to put a bag in their blue bin if there's room. I try to remember to do most of the raking and blowing and trimming on Thursdays, BEFORE the trash truck comes.
Speaking of messy things, the milfoil and hydrilla in our lakes are becoming a really big problem. At the monthly meeting of Mayors, City Managers, County Commissioners and the County Judge, we heard from LCRA representatives about what is happening, and what can be done to reduce this problem. It isn't just unsightly. Boat motors and jet skis can require costly repairs or even be ruined. Homes that back to the lakes often pay the LCRA to be able to pump water directly from the lake to water lawns and trees, and their pumps are being ruined. In the past - maybe 10 years ago - the LCRA dropped the lake levels every three or four years by up to three feet, usually in early January, and left the water levels down until mid-February so that these invasive weeds would die out and waterfront property owners could make needed repairs to docks, etc. That may be considered this year.
Tuesday morning, I noticed that the coots are beginning to show up on Lake Marble Falls. At the meeting, I learned that the coots like to eat the weeds that we want to get rid of...there just aren't enough of them to complete the clean-up job. And grass carp aren't a great answer either. More on this issue later...Mary Ann Raesener Mayor |

WATERING SCHEDULE
| |
As of September 9th, the City is on a Twice-a-Week watering schedule. Please note which days you are allowed to water and adjust your systems to reflect the change. The watering schedule is as follows:
Residential:
Odd number addresses: Wednesdays and Saturdays
Even number addresses: Thursdays and Sundays
Commercial: (including large landscapes) Tuesdays and Fridays
Watering Hours: Midnight to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight.
An advantage in the twice-a-week watering is that it would reduce the wasting of water by minimizing the need and frequency of flushing fire hydrants. The City has received several calls recently regarding the taste/odor issues with our potable water, which would normally require the flushing of the lines via use of a fire hydrant.
