WATERING RESTRICTION EASING
On September 9th, the Meadowlakes City Council Workshop, City Manager, Johnnie Thompson, reported that the citizens of Meadowlakes have done an exemplary job by meeting and exceeding the water savings targets.  Due to overwhelming response by the citizens, water usage has actually decreased by 38%.  As a result, effective immediately the City will be easing water restrictions to allow for one additional watering day per week.  The watering schedule is as follows:

Residential:

Odd number addresses: Wednesdays and Saturdays

Even number addresses: Thursdays and Sundays

Commercial: (including large landscapes) Tuesdays and Fridays

Watering Hours: Midnight to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight.

An advantage in the twice-a-week watering is that it would reduce the wasting of water by minimizing the need and frequency of flushing fire hydrants.  The City has received several calls recently regarding the taste/odor issues with our potable water, which would normally require the flushing of the lines via use of a fire hydrant.

The City Council will review the water consumption again at its regular meeting on October 14th.

The Meadowlakes Building Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, September 22nd at 9:00 a.m.

MAYOR'S CORNER

Greetings!

While walking in the neighborhood, I have been stopped more than once by residents who were curious about the small (maybe 3" square) blue plastic blocks that seem to be randomly placed toward the middle of our streets. Luckily, I had already asked Johnnie Thompson about them, so I know the answer. They mark the location of fire hydrants, and they are placed off-center on purpose...they are just slightly toward the side of the street on which the fire hydrant is located. Since we do not have any street lights, these little reflective blue blocks will help the firemen find the hydrants in case of an emergency. Some of the blocks were pretty much destroyed during the recent repaving project, but they will be replaced soon.

EMERGENCY TRAINING

REDUCE YOUR LOSSES IN A COMMUNITY DISASTER

In 95% of all emergencies, bystanders and everyday citizens provide the first immediate assistance on the scene. Without the proper training, how would you know what to do? You may not think you need to learn - but the moment an incident or disaster occurs - you will regret not having learned.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family and your neighbors in the event of a disaster when emergency personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away.

Under the direction of local emergency responders, CERT teams help provide critical support by giving immediate assistance to victims, providing damage assessment information and helping to organize other volunteers at a disaster site.

Volunteers trained in CERT also offer a potential workforce value for performing duties such as shelter support, crowd control and evacuation. The role of a CERT volunteer is to help others until trained emergency personnel arrive. Through this training, you will know better how to help yourself and those around you survive in the immediacy of the disaster.

On Thursday, April 23, 2015
the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management will begin holding a series of free CERT training classes for residents of the community, as well as property owners associations and organizations so that they can individually be better prepared to help themselves, their families, loves ones and neighbors. This will be held from7:00 pm - 10:00 p.m.

This program is made possible by a CAPCOG Citizens Corps Grant Program/CERT which provides the funds for training equipment and supplies.

To register for this class, and get more information and the entire training schedule, go to the Burnet County CERT's website at www.burnetcountycert.org.
