MAYOR'S CORNER
| | Greetings! I used to try to attend most of the Pedernales Electric Coop's Board meetings (the third Monday of each month) in Johnson City. It takes around 30 minutes to get there (door to door), and I always learn something when I make myself get out of the house on a Monday morning. It is hard to believe that I made it to work by 8:00 AM for 35 years - in heavy traffic in Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Nashville, Oklahoma City, and Austin, to name a few. Now, I prefer to go to Hidden Falls at 10:00 AM on Mondays for a relaxing yoga session! But I did make it to the PEC meeting this week, because I wanted to thank Nate Burns for working with Meadowlakes to facilitate PEC's inventory of all of their equipment in our neighborhood. What a huge job! It is far more complicated than, say...taking inventory of every item in my house! The equipment in Meadowlakes is pretty old, so I won't be surprised if their next task is to replace some of it. Today, the Council held a special session to update the procedures for reviewing applications for the Meadowlakes Public Facility Corporation (runs the golf course), the Building Committee and the Planning & Zoning Commission. With that behind us, now all we need is for our citizens to step forward! You will benefit by becoming more involved! Come by City Hall to pick up an application - and return it by Friday, August 29th. Our new street sweeper started its rounds on Tuesday. It is big and a bit noisy, but it works! With any luck...and no breakdowns, you will see it on your street soon! This is the result of a joint effort of the City and the Property Owners Association. Everything works better when we work together! I attended the regular meeting of the POA Tuesday evening. Their next big task is to update their "Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions" - the POA equivalent of ordinances or rules. The most difficult part for the POA is getting at least 51% of the property owners to approve this update. You should be able to go to the POA website after September 1st to see a comparison of the old and new language. I will be forever grateful to my in-laws for stumbling upon Meadowlakes in 1976 and deciding to build their retirement home here. I don't think I would have been lucky enough to find it by myself!
