EMERGENCY TRAINING
|
|
REDUCE YOUR LOSSES IN A COMMUNITY DISASTER
In 95% of all emergencies, bystanders and everyday citizens provide the first immediate assistance on the scene. Without the proper training, how would you know what to do? You may not think you need to learn - but the moment an incident or disaster occurs - you will regret not having learned.
CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family and your neighbors in the event of a disaster when emergency personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away.
Under the direction of local emergency responders, CERT teams help provide critical support by giving immediate assistance to victims, providing damage assessment information and helping to organize other volunteers at a disaster site.
Volunteers trained in CERT also offer a potential workforce value for performing duties such as shelter support, crowd control and evacuation. The role of a CERT volunteer is to help others until trained emergency personnel arrive. Through this training, you will know better how to help yourself and those around you survive in the immediacy of the disaster.
On Thursday, May 1, 2014 the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management will begin holding a series of free CERT training classes for residents of the community, as well as property owners associations and organizations so that they can individually be better prepared to help themselves, their families, loves ones and neighbors. This first class of 2014 will be held from 7:00 pm - 10:00 p.m. at Freedom Flyers (Across from Seton Hospital) 3202 US 281 in Burnet.
This program is made possible by a CAPCOG Citizens Corps Grant Program/CERT which provides the funds for training equipment and supplies.
To register for this class, and get more information and the entire training schedule, contact Jim Gallagher, CERT Training Officer at jdgallagher45@yahoo.com
Information is also available on the Burnet County website, www.burnetcountytexas.org
