January 29th was the first day to file for a place on the ballot for the general election to be held in May. The deadline to file was February 28th by 5:00 p.m. There were three positions open; Place 1 currently held by Mary Ann Raesener, Place 3 currently held by Gary Hammond, and the Mayor's position.
Update: Mary Ann Raesener is running uncontested for Mayor and Mike Barry is running uncontested for Place 1. We will have a race between Jerry Drummond and Moe Garza for Place 3. The election will be held on Saturday, May 10th. Early voting will begin Monday, April 28th. I will have more information regarding dates and times of early voting in future newsletters. For the next few weeks we will be featuring a short biography of each candidate. This should in no way be construed as an endorsement by the City; we are providing this information as a service to the residents and the information was provided by the individual candidates.
This week we will focus on Jerry Drummond, running for Place 3:
Jerry has spent most of his adult life in public service. He served 19 years as elected Llano County Constable with an office in Horseshoe Bay. He served eight years as elected Constable in Williamson County (Round Rock). For seven years, he served in the United States military in the reserve unit, with three years active duty over seas.
In addition to a long career in law enforcement, Jerry's experience includes work as an investigator for insurance companies. Jerry's many years working with people and being involved in the budget process are of benefit to MeadowlakesCity Council
Jerry believes the most important responsibility of a council member is participation at council meetings. Jerry says, "I'll devote my time to problems of basic policy and act as liaison between the city and our residents. I'm concerned not only with daily affairs, but the development of Meadowlakes, maintaining property values,
encouraging the usage of our golf course and other facilities."
Jerry graduated from high school in the Texas Panhandle and attended Abilene Christian College and Central Texas College in Killeen. He's been married to his wife, Marian, for more than 55 years, and they spend lots of time doting on four grandchildren by their two sons: Charles and family in Horseshoe Bay and Kirk and family in Austin.
