Port City Sandwich Company
40R Merrimac Street, Newburyport 978-358-8628 | Website
Newburyport has long enjoyed a tradition of great family owned businesses, and Port City Sandwich Company, located next door to the Chamber's offices, has significantly upped that ante since it opened in early 2012.
Co-owned and managed by former Capital Grille Manager Tyke Karopoulos and Tyke's mother Susan Barnard, along with Tyke's wife Jamie and brother Scott, Port City Sandwich Company's winning combination of homemade breakfast foods, creative and fresh sandwiches, mouth-watering soups, award winning chili and Sue's signature dessert bars has made it one of the most popular eateries in greater Newburyport.
In addition to a brisk breakfast and lunch business, Port City also does a significant amount of catering for many local businesses and organizations, priding itself on fresh food, reasonable prices, and free delivery and set-up. Each April it undertakes its largest catering job when it prepares 1,200 fresh boxed lunches for the Institution for Savings' annual Credit for Life Fair for area high school juniors.
In addition to being a three-time winner of North Shore Magazine's BONS Award, Port City also is a great community partner. It donates its services and gift cards to many local non-profit organizations and events and hosts an early-morning complimentary pre-Thanksgiving Day breakfast for the entire Newburyport High School football - no small task or expense if one knows football players!
Want to see for yourself? Stop by today for a delicious Captain Bob Breakfast sandwich (named for well-known boat captain Bob Yeomans) or the signature West Newbury sandwich, followed by a sweet and chewy blonde brownie. Get there early though because they don't last long! Port City Sandwich Co. is open seven days a week from 8am to 3pm.
