Federal Work-Study Funds for Spring Semester Expire May 17

New Tracking Tool for Student Employee Timecards

The last date to use Federal Work-Study (FWS) funds for the spring semester is May 17. After that, any hours worked will be paid 100 percent out of departmental funds. if you have a student worker for the summer and wish to use FWS funds, please complete another Federal Work Study Authorization Form (link is in step #8). A new form is needed each semester to ensure compliance with the FWS regulations, which require a student to be enrolled at least half time.

A new tracking tool has been created for individuals who approve student employees' timecards in Kronos. The tool will indicate when a department should notify a business manager and inform them of the need for a cost distribution change in the payroll system. Using the tool will reduce the number of corrections needed on the accounting side, and it will also be helpful to students and department personnel who often rely on data in Banner that is always behind one pay period from the total hours worked to date. Lync is Now Skype for Business

Microsoft has released an update for Office 2013 that rebrands Lync 2013 as Skype for Business. This update will be deployed automatically via Windows updates to all current Lync 2013 users May 5. There are a few cosmetic changes to the interface, but most functionality is the same. This update is not available for Lync on Macs and mobile clients, and it does not impact current Skype users. The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) is sponsoring a workshop, "Why Mobility Matters," June 3-- 5, where faculty will explore how to leverage the "mobile" of mobile devices to engage students.
