Summit League Food Fight
The Summit League Food Fight is part of an initiative by the league's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for a league-wide community service project. It is essentially a food drive competition where each host institution will be challenged to hold a food drive at the designated game. At the end of the Food Fight schedule, the school that raises the most amount of food (measured in pounds) will be deemed the winner and will receive the Summit League Food Fight trophy. Each school is responsible for designating one men's basketball game and one women's basketball game as their "Food Fight Games" and for promoting it as such. Any cash donations will be given an equivalent measure in pounds of food: $5 = 13 lbs. of food (or 5 meals to feed a hungry family)

IPFW has selected the following weeks for their food drive:

  • December 2-- 7, men's basketball vs. Dartmouth, December 7
  • January 9--16, women's basketball vs. Denver University, January 16

Fort Wayne Community Harvest Food Bank is the recipient of the donations. Last year IPFW collected over 8,600 pounds of food, finishing in fourth place. Our goal this year is 10,000 pounds.

Community Harvest Food Bank barrels will be dropped off at the following buildings during the above two weeks:

  • Kettler Information Desk
  • Walb Union Information Desk
  • Neff Hall Lobby by Room 101
  • Outside Follett's Bookstore
  • Gates Sports Center entrance
Dons for a Cause Wrist Bands: Help Fight Hunger
IPFW student-athletes will be coming through campus selling "IPFW Mastodons -- Dons for a Cause" wrist bands. Our goal is to sell 1,500 during those two weeks. If you purchase your wrist band now, Chancellor Carwein has agreed to allow those who purchase them the opportunity to wear jeans the week of Homecoming if you wear a shirt with IPFW on it. Each department should ask their supervisor, as some dress codes may apply for certain areas.

If your department or group would like to collect food and bring it in, we can come to your office and pick it up for you. This is the time of year when the food bank needs the most help. Let's empty our pantries to stock the food bank before the holidays and then again to replenish them after.

If you want to learn more about becoming involved or donating, or if you need food to be picked up, contact Ron Clark, IPFW Athletics, 260-481-6617 or [email protected].
