IPFW Fall Fest 2013 
Staff, faculty, and students are invited to the inaugural Fall Fest 2013 on Tuesday, October 29. Fall is such an exciting time of year---- what better time to celebrate the changing season and of course, Halloween? Related events will include a canned food drive, Halloween party and costume contest, a cook-off contest, and much more. All proceeds generated from these events will be donated to the Brown Ink Society, which awards grants of up to $300 to students faced with financial emergencies that interfere with their educational pursuit at IPFW. Inaugural Fall Bus Tour Fosters Goodwill, Collaboration 
Chancellor Carwein will kick off the inaugural Fall Bus Tour this Sunday, October 13. The tour will take place over fall break and includes visits to Purdue West Lafayette, including dinner at President Mitch Daniels' house. "The goals of the Fall Bus Tour are many," said Chancellor Carwein. "It will provide an opportunity to network with campus colleagues, meet new colleagues, and develop new collaborations. Our travel stops will allow us to showcase IPFW, promote the expertise and capabilities of our campus, recruit for our programs, and make connections throughout." 12th Annual Legislative Issues Luncheon 
You're invited to meet with northeast Indiana legislators, alumni, and community leaders, as well as IPFW students, faculty, and staff to discuss issues affecting IPFW and northeast Indiana. The free catered luncheon will be Wednesday, October 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Walb Union International Ballroom B. Changes to PERF Benefits Coming in 2014 
The Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) Board of Trustees has approved two changes that will influence the amount of future PERF retirees' benefits. Clerical, service, and operations/technical staff hired before Sept. 9, 2013, participate in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF). These changes will go into effect Oct. 1, 2014, for future retirees. Read the details 
Goodson is Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer 
T. Goodson III, University of Michigan Department of Chemistry, will present "New Approaches to Energy Harvesting and Storage," Friday, October 18, at 3:15 p.m. in the Walb Union Ballroom. The lecture is part of the Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer Series and is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science. Change Management Training Session
Human Resources will offer another session of change management training on Wednesday,  November 20, from 9 a.m. until noon in the HR Training Room, Kettler Hall G06. Training will be presented by Mary Ellen Hack, university assistant director of organizational development for Indiana University. If the demand is high and registration fills up your name will be added to a waiting list for a future session.
Annual Write-a-Will Event 
Leave a Legacy IPFW will once again be a community host for a Write-a-Will event on Tuesday, October 22, as part of the national Leave a Legacy initiative in conjunction with the Planned Giving Council of Northeast Indiana (PGCNI). Attorney Charles Backs will be on campus to assist people in writing their wills. Simple wills that contain at least one charitable bequest will be written at no cost for those who attend. Time slots will be offered by appointment between 1 p.m. ant 4 p.m. in Walb Union, Room G21. For more information, contact Jay Thayer at 481-6963 or visit the PGCNI website
Special Events Service Changes  
Last spring, as a consequence of budget cuts, the service of delivering portable technology to classrooms, labs, and conference rooms was eliminated and all portable equipment was made available to departments. The scheduling, delivery, maintenance and replacement of that equipment is now the responsibility of the departments that acquired that equipment. Special Events continues to provide technology support for events in designated event areas, such as Walb Union. Technology has been built into most classrooms, some class labs, and conference rooms by IT Services  Read the memo (PDF)
Pickle Ball Open to Campus Community 
IPFW Intramurals will be sponsoring Pickle Ball every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the Athletics Center Fieldhouse center court, starting this weekend through finals week (excluding December 7). Participation is open to all IPFW faculty, staff and students. There has been a lot of interest expressed, and nets and balls will be available along with a few paddles for those who don't own one. You need not be an Athletics Center member. If you would like to participate, please email Ron Clark at [email protected] by Friday, October 11, at noon, so that he can put together a list.  
Association of IPFW Women Schedule Chicago Trip
Bus The Association of IPFW Women is sponsoring a trip to Chicago on Saturday, November 9. Passengers will be able to enjoy a fall getaway without having to worry about looking or paying for parking. The bus will drop off passengers at four stops. The cost is $40 per person, which includes transportation and a $5 donation to the scholarship fund of the Association of IPFW Women. Health Savings Account Presentations 
Health Savings Account (HSA) presentations by Tina Sullivan and Tina Grady will be offered at 9, 10, and 11 a.m. and 1, 2, and 3 p.m. on October 10 and 11. All sessions will be in Kettler Hall, Room G06, and will last approximately 45 minutes. 

Costco Open House
Costco is here today and tomorrow for a faculty and staff open house. Special rates for membership for IPFW employee will be offered today, October 9, 1-- 3 p.m., Kettler Hall first floor lobby; and Thursday, October 10, 10 a.m.-- noon, Student Services Complex hallway, near YoYo's.

Liz Monnier from Fort Wayne Dance Collective will share details about "Into the Darkness," opening October 19. Ann Shive and Dan Diefenbacher from the Renaissance in Roanoke Festival will highlight this year's October 12 event. Tune in to Arts Weekly Thursday, October 10, at 7:30 p.m. on WFWA PBS-39.
