4th of July Fireworks Regulationsa
fireworks-summer.jpg
The City of Tumwater reminds residents to celebrate Independence Day in a safe and enjoyable manner that is within the law. The Tumwater Fireworks ordinance (TMC 8.30) limits the timeframe allowed to discharge fireworks and the number of fireworks stands permitted within the City.

The ordinance states: Ignition/discharge of safe and sane fireworks are allowed within the City of Tumwater on July 3 and 4, ONLY between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

A Safe Patrol (police and fire staff) will enforce regulations during the holiday season. Violators can be charged with a misdemeanor and fined up to $1,000.

Because of unusually dry conditions this year, please use extra precautions to prevent fires if you chooses to use personal fireworks. Tumwater Fire Department has fireworks safety information and is available to speak with community groups. Call (360) 754-4170 or visit the City's website. In addition, Tumwater's Pioneer Park will be closed on the 4th of July.

K-9 Program Updateb

K-9 Otis takes a break Tumwater Police Department's first and only K-9, Otis, will be retiring this year. Otis started working with the Tumwater Police when he was just a year old. For the last nine years, Otis has been an asset to the department and the community. Otis provides the ability for police teams to attain better results in tough situations. Whether he's tracking or conducting a narcotics sniff, his commitment to providing safety and service to his handler, Officer Russ Mize, the department, and ultimately, the residents of Tumwater, is unmatched.

The K-9 program was originally funded by donations from the community (2005-2006). Since Otis has been such an important part of the Police Department, they are working hard to find a new K-9 replacement to continue the program. If you'd like to help, please consider donating to the Tumwater K-9 Program today. Online options are available on our website at:
