About Your Course - by Course Superintendent Bob Volpe
|
The Ibis renovation these past two weeks has gone very well. Last week's Ibis collar project consisted of removing an "off-type" or "mutation" grass. We re-sodded with Celebration Bermudagrass. See below for photos of the process.
Hand watering of the sod continues daily and will aid in good rooting. Our first mowing will slightly turn the grass brown, but this is only a color issue, and has not caused any damage to the sod. Rolling and topdressing will cause the sod to be level. The Egret trees are now being chosen by the landscaper and this project will commence during the Egret closure beginning May 23.
The clubhouse landscape project is planned for completion by the end of this month.

The Chef Recommends........

Breakfast Smoothie
I have a six year old son that despite having a chef for a father will not eat his vegetables. So, every morning I make a breakfast smoothie for our family that is full of fruits and vegetables. This allows me to make sure he gets enough vitamins and minerals as well as soluble and insoluble fiber. I do not juice the ingredients because, juicing removes the insoluble fiber leaving you with basically green sugar water.
I place all the ingredients in a vita prep blender and blend on high for half a minute. Below is the base recipe I use. I usually add other ingredients that I pick up at the store. Like beets, blue berries, fresh apricots or peaches, really any fresh produce that looks great. Sometimes I will add yogurt to the smoothie as well. If you decide to add yogurt as well, wait until the other ingredients are pureed then add the yogurt at the end of the blending process. This will prevent the yogurt from separating.
- Kale, one large leaf or two if they are smaller.Carrot, cup, I use the small pre peeled carrots.
- Banana, one (peeled)
- Mango, cup (frozen, peeled and diced)
- Pineapple, (I buy the peeled and cored pineapples at Publix, Yes, I realize the irony of a chef buying pre peeled pineapple).
- Flax seeds, cup
- Ice, 1 cup
- Coconut water, 2 cups
If you are looking for a way to add healthy fruits and vegetables to your diet, I highly recommend making smoothies. It is a quick and delicious way to add a few servings of fruits and vegetable to your diet.
