Greetings Anchorage resident!
It's been a bustling few weeks within the Municipality of Anchorage! I hope that you and your loved ones had a relaxing Independence Day and have had time to enjoy this record breaking, beautiful summer.
I want to point out a job well done by Anchorage First Responders. On Monday, July 15, 2013 at approximately 1:34pm , the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) Dispatch center received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a four-plex on fire at 501 San Juan Cirle. The AFD initially dispatched 12 units to the scene. The first arriving crew reported that three quarters of the building was engulfed in flames.
Due to the size and amount of fire a second alarm was dispatched which sent another 10 units to the scene. Crews had truck companies and crews with hand lines set up around the building to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
The building is considered a total loss; cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation. Thankfully, there were no injuries or fatalities.
Please join me as I commend the first responders that came to the aid of the community. As I've been told by municipal officials, this could have easily spread to surrounding structures. Great job AFD and gratitude is also deserved to the local Red Cross.
Have a great weekend,
Mayor Dan Sullivan
