October/2013
Greetings!

Once again, I have the pleasure of bringing you more news of the exciting work that WGBA has been doing over the past month, and a sneak peek into what's still to come. We have a lot to cover, so let's get to it!

Sustainability Energy and Efficiency Conference

On October 4, 2013 we held the 10th Annual Se2 Conference at the UW-Milwaukee campus. The successful event involved over 250 participants, and numerous sessions geared towards this year's theme: A Focus on Sustainable Communities. A collection of fantastic speakers and exhibitors, provided a wide variety of educational and networking opportunities, and a collection of exciting announcements were made as well including:

  1. A new partnership between WGBA and WasteCap Resource Solutions. Our organizations are teaming up to provide WasteCap's wonderful TRACE program to the entire state of Wisconsin! You heard me correctly. We are working together to eliminate cost barriers for project teams in an effort to streamline their ability to track and document landfill diversion processes for construction and demolition projects. This online service will save project teams' valuable time and resources on every project, while reducing overall environment impacts. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities or more information, please contact us.

  2. Unveiling of the new WGBA membership structure. As part of WGBA's transition into a full Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, we are required to transition to an individual membership model. We have spent the last year examining other membership models and speaking with our sponsors and members to develop a new structure that increases membership value as well as offers numerous flexible options. The result is a member structure that offers four levels of individual membership to choose from. In addition, we developed the Chapter Ally structure, which allows companies to continue supporting WGBA's mission, while reaping numerous new and improved benefits. The new structure will be officially rolled out in January of 2014 and all existing members will be transitioned into the new structure automatically. All new memberships and renewals will continue with the current structure until January. More details will follow over the next couple of months.

2014 Se2 Planning
Believe it or not, we have already begun early discussions regarding the 2014 Se2 Conference. Everything is up for discussion at this time - location, keynotes, topics, themes, etc. This is your chance to be heard and get involved. If you are interested in volunteering to help plan next year's conference, let us know.

Did you miss the conference? We want to hear from you!
For our 2014 planning, we want to know what kept you from Se2. The good, the bad and the ugly - we want to hear it so we can continue to strive towards excellence. Your voices are important to us, and we want to give you an opportunity to shape the next event as well. Everything is up for discussion at this time - location, keynotes, topics, themes, etc. This is your chance to be heard. So, for all of you that were not able to join us at this year's conference, please take 5-10 minutes to fill out the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZM2XVGF

I would like close this month's newsletter with a sincere thank you to our dedicated staff, volunteers, presenters and exhibitors, who were the main reason that this year's conference was a fruitful event full of excitement and opportunities. Another debt of gratitude is owed to all of the attendees, especially those that took the time to respond to our conference survey. Lastly, our heartfelt appreciation goes out to this year's conference sponsors. Without your continued support, WGBA could not deliver this keystone annual event at the high quality level that our membership deserves.

Warm regards,
