November 21, 2012
Friends,
I spent last week at Greenbuild in San Francisco with roughly 35,000 other people from around the world. It was intense, exciting and inspirational. Wisconsin was represented in spades by speakers, exhibitors and attendees. I gave a presentation on a pilot program I started with Home Depot that allows USGBC Chapters nationwide, to give Green Building workshops in their local Home Depot stores. Leah Samson-Samuel gave a presentation showing other Chapters how to form a coalition out of all of the various Green Schools committees and groups that many states have. Theresa Lehman presented on Advocacy, sharing her tried and true tips on connecting with state legislators to promote green building legislation and practices, and Marge Anderson was a keynote speaker at the Women in Green Power breakfast.
The underlying message at this year's 11th annual Greenbuild conference, and delivered by Rick Fedrizzi, USGBC CEO and Rachel Gutter, USGBC's Director of the Center for Green Schools, is that "It's time to stop talking to each other and start talking to everybody else!". This essentially means that we need to bring the walls down between our traditional audiences of professionals and everyone else. We need to get out to the Home Depots and the Schools and the Libraries, places where everyone in our communities go to learn and to buy building supplies, and start reaching and teaching those people, a completely new audience. Those of you who have spent the last few years of your careers learning at our workshops and events, it's now YOUR turn to get out there and teach everyone else. I know you can do it Wisconsin! What do you think? For video of this year's exciting Greenbuild keynotes and sessions, click here. More will be added daily.
We are so thankful for all of your great work! |
