Aquatic Physical Therapy

Memorial Day marks the annual opening of swimming pools around most of the United States. As a reminder to our fellow pool patrons we have  great aquatic physical therapy services at our Oxford, Fairfield, and Florence Centers.

Are you wondering if aquatic physical therapy is right for you? Or are you not sure what aquatic physical therapy is?Lara Freidline, PT, MPT, and aquatic physical therapist in Oxford, gives her expertise about aquatic physical therapy:

"I have been taking patients in the water for over 12 years at Oxford Physical Therapy Centers.  During this time, I have had the privilege and challenge of working with many patients. I always tell patients,  getting in the pool is like going into outer space for a while, because there is less joint pressure from gravity. It is also like taking a day off for your joints, but not your body because you do not get as much joint compression but still get at great muscular and cardio workout. It does take a little getting used to the water and finding your "sea legs", but what a payoff when there is less pain and more movement.

People experiencing joint pain, chronic pain, swelling, and limited weight bearing all find the water a welcome place to exercise.  The water is also a nice cross-training tool for anyone in rehab and possibly for life. You don't know how it will feel until you try it!"
