New Year Resolutions
| |
It's January and new years resolutions are here! With weight loss as one of the top resolutions it is important that we start the new year off right! People try to lose weight an average of 8 times per year and when people do lose weight about 50% of people put all the weight plus more back on. As an exercise physiologist I want to help people keep off the weight that they work so hard to lose. There are a few tricks to keeping the weight off:
- Lose the weight slowly: There are various "magic" pills and diet fads that we come across everyday that tell us that losing a significant amount of weight fast is positive but the appropriate weight loss is .5-1.5lbs/week. Remember, the faster the weight comes off the quicker it is put back on.2.
- Nutrition is the key: Your diet is actually 80% of your success in weight loss. When you think of your body as a car, if you do not put the proper fuel in your car it will not run efficiently and therefore cost you more money. It is important that you fuel your body so it can recover and mold the way that you want it to. *If you are seeking individualized nutrition guidance, please contact us as we can offer our recommendations for someone to help you.
- Work with a professional: When working with an exercise physiologist you are more likely to hold yourself more accountable inside and outside the gym. When you have an appointment with a trainer it does not allow you to make an excuse not to exercise! Consistency is the key! An exercise professional also knows the parameters of a weight loss program that will be specific to you.
If you need to get back into the gym and don't know where to start, you would be a perfect candidate for our Medically Oriented Gym (M.O.G.)! Click here to learn more.
