Interns are undergraduate students who receive a stipend to work 40 hours a week for 8 weeks during the summer and can provide amazing assistance to your program while learning more about the health industry. You don't want to miss this meeting! The Inland Coalition Quarterly meeting is from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Azusa Pacific University's San Bernardino campus. Please RSVP to carol@we-reachout.org. The address is 375 W. Hospitality Lane, Room 300. San Bernardino, CA 92408

IESHA Deadline Extended!

The Inland Empire Student Health Ambassador Program (IESHA) is a unique opportunity for high school and community college students to experience community health in a clinic setting. IESHA is a 36-hour program that will prepare students to deliver health-related messages in pre-selected clinic waiting rooms.Students will be trained by qualified health professionals in topics like: dental health, diabetes, cardiovascular health, etc.

This could be a great volunteer opportunity for your students! The IESHA program not only looks great on a university application, but it builds experience and gives students the hands on experience that encourage them to view health careers from a preventive perspective. IESHA is set to begin in April and end in July of this year.

Here are the requirements. Students must:
  • be 16 years of age or older
  • have a 2.7 cumulative GPA or higher
  • currently enrolled in a high school heath pathway program or community college majoring in a health-related field
  • interested in a health-related career
  • have reliable transportation to the clinic site
  • fill out an application for the program

The program consists of:

  • 3 to 4 Saturday trainings (about 1 Saturday per month)
  • Clinic visits which are scheduled according to the students' availability.
Learn more:
  • Visit the website at www.ieshaprogram.com
  • Contact the program assistant, Marina Mejia via email
  • Contact Carol Allbaugh via email
  • Call the office at 909.982.8641
Application Deadline is March 27, 2015

Palomares Academy of Health Sciences participated in a National Academy Foundation (NAF) Validation visit via teleconference. Principal Camille Ramos Beal reported that they were overwhelmed by the support of their health academy.

The Inland Coalition has established a West/East Sub-regional Nexus group that meets each month at Palomares Academy.

**Mark Your Calendar**

There are many ways to get yourself, your students or your agency involved in the community. You can volunteer, be a vendor/exhibitor, lend your voice, or even be a presenter. We now list upcoming events in the yellow column to the left. Below is some special health-related information from the American Heart Association (AHA) that you can share!

Get the scoop on sodium! March 16-22 is World Sodium Awareness Week. Eating less salt can lower your risk of high blood pressure and improve your heart health. That's why we invite you to pledge to reduce the sodium you eat. Find wonderful resources for you and your family at sodiumbreakup.heart.org/pledge

Heart-healthy options. When you see the Heart-Check mark on food packaging, you'll instantly know the food has been certified to meet the AHA's guidelines for a heart-healthy food. It's a good first step in creating an overall sensible eating plan. Read more

Cooking with heart. The AHA is working to help kids and families live heart-healthy lives. Watch our
