 Dunham Fund Challenges AID

On September 26th at the Association for Individual Development's 2014 Benefit Auction,"Set Sail for Lost Treasure" at Eagle Brook Country Club, Dunham Fund Advisor, Stewart Beach, announced a Dunham Fund challenge grant to AID to be matched $1 for $1 up to $750,000 raised by the organization over a three year period for its "Investing today, ensuring tomorrow" campaign.

With this Treasure Challenge, the Dunham Fund will be the lead donor for this $2M campaign intended to create new and preserve existing support services and facilities to meet the needs of the growing adult population with disabilities in Kane and Kendall counties.

In 2013, AID served 4,681 children and adults with disabilities in Kane, Kendall, DeKalb, DuPage, Will and suburban Cook counties in Illinois.  It operates 7 day program/training centers in Elgin, Aurora, Batavia and Yorkville, a mental health center in Aurora and 41 home- based, supervised and supported living facilities throughout Kane and Kendall counties.  There are 1,400 adults on the waiting list for services and it is anticipated that an additional 8,000 students currently enrolled in special education classes in community schools will need adult services in the future.

                    Major Impact!
Dunham Fund grants have been made for as little as $2,000 and are currently limited to $1M annually.  The Fund will often award smaller grants to organizations to sponsor one-time events or enhancements to ongoing programs that are of an educational nature that will do much to involve and benefit the community as a whole in addition to enhancing the missions of the organization and the Fund.  These events and program enhancements often make a significant impact in the community, educating the citizenry about current social trends and critical needs.

Kids Hope USA Inc.

Kids Hope USA Inc. (KHUSA) will utilize this $38,930 grant to provide additional KHUSA programs in the Aurora Area. KHUSA already offers more than twenty of these unique church/public school collaborative mentoring programs in Aurora School Districts 129 and 131 to at-risk elementary school students.

Not an academic tutoring program, Kids Hope services focus on "filling a personal void" in the lives of at-risk children who do not feel valued and thus experience barriers to social, personal and academic success. KHUSA builds the partnerships between local churches and public schools and trains church members to mentor at-risk youths identified by the individual school systems.

Advance ILLINOIS

The Dunham Fund is a $25,000 sponsor for Advance Illinois' 2nd Annual Illinois 60 by 25 Network Workshop to be convened January 14-16, 2015 in Aurora. The workshop plans to bring together 200 Illinois community, national, and international leaders and their business, education, policy, and philanthropic thought partners to align policy efforts and leverage community resources at state and local levels.

This alignment of efforts will enable Advance Illinois and its network partners to achieve its goal to have 60% of adults obtain a college or career credential by 2025. The Dunham Fund grant will fund a half-day training with internationally renowned consultants, FSC and Tamarack, to build the capacity of the conference participants to develop collective impact models that are proven to create large-scale change.

CASA Kendall County

This $25,000 Dunham Fund grant will help support
CASA Kendall County's mission to provide a trained, volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) as a representative for each abused and neglected
child in Kendall County processed by the 23rd Judicial Circuit Juvenile Court System. In 2013, 66 children were served by 40 Kendall County CASA volunteers. These volunteers give children a voice in court and advocate for appropriate decisions that optimally lead to family reunification.
