With the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, millions of people have shared videos of themselves getting doused with ice water and asking others to do the same in order to raise awareness and charitable contributions to fight ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, named for the New York Yankees first baseman who died of ALS in 1941 at the age of 37.  From July 29th through August 20th, the ALS Association has been able to raise more than $41 million to fund research to find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a fatal disease that attacks the nervous system.  The Ice Bucket Challenge has become a social media sensation and originated with ALS patient and former Boston College baseball player, Pete Frates, whose ice bucket challenge was watched on Twitter and accepted by some Boston athletes.
