Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley and the Dunham Fund collaborate to create
A New Year's Eve celebration at the Paramount Theatre marked the kick-off of a yearlong initiative between the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley and the Dunham Fund. Guests were invited to participate in the initiative's kick-off and also to attend a Paramount performance of "Piano Men: A Tribute to Elton & Billy."
The foundations' initiative, Doing Our Part, will strategically support some of the Aurora area's most pressing issues. Coordinated by both foundations, fields-of-interest will be identified by area experts, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders as priority issues to be addressed in the future. Early in 2014, one field will be identified and will become a focus of collaboration and fundraising efforts throughout the year. A Field-of-Interest Fund will be established at the Community Foundation to accommodate the fundraising efforts. The Dunham Fund has made an initial $250,000, $1 for $1 matching challenge grant, to establish the new Fund. The Community Foundation and the Dunham Fund will cultivate new donors to the fund and will collaborate with nonprofit organizations working within the identified field-of-interest to select funding opportunities that will provide specific, measurable results. Those in attendance at the celebration were asked to fill out a card identifying their personal thoughts on the top three most pressing issues facing communities in the Aurora area. Additional focus groups will be held to identify the 2014 field-of-interest. Mark Truemper, Chairman of the Community Foundation and of the Dunham Fund, knows "that eradicating any one issue facing our communities is not possible", but "we do believe, however, that it is our responsibility to do our part in making our communities better places to live and work." For additional information about Doing Our Part, interested parties may contact Jeff Hartman, Vice-President of Development for the Community Foundation at 630-896-7800.

Aurora Food Pantries Partner
for Dunham Fund Matching Pallet Challenge Grant
A Dunham Fund grant to the Marie Wilkinson Foundation matched one dollar for every dollar raised up to $25,000 through November 27, 2013 to support a Matching Pallet Program for both the Marie Wilkinson and Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantries. Two additional "angel sponsors", Konen Insurance and the Dolan Family Foundation, contributed $5,000 each to increase the matching challenge to $35,000.
Two brothers partner to benefit two partner pantries!
The Matching Pallet Program was developed to coordinate with the Annual Holiday Food Drive held in the Aurora area. Mr. Dan Dolan, Jr. is the founder of the annual food drive which has helped to provide food to the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry for four years. The Matching Pallet program was the brain child of both Dan Dolan and his brother, Brian, who serves on the Marie Wilkinson Board of Directors. Matching donors to the program purchased pallets of food, ranging from $162 for 900 boxes of cereal (doubled to 1,800 boxes by the sponsoring grantors) up to $1,000 for 6,000 pounds of meat (doubled to 12,000 pounds). The food will be purchased from Northern Illinois Food Bank at the Bank's substantially discounted prices.
Both pantries have newly renovated facilities with additional warehouse space sufficient to store substantially more food for their clients.

Meets Dunham Fund Challenge and Opens New Health Center on Aurora's East Side
In early December, VNA Health Care welcomed the community to the opening of its new federally qualified health care facility on Farnsworth Avenue that will expand health care services to more than 32,000 people on the east side of Aurora. The Dunham Fund supported VNA's "Growing to Serve" expansion campaign with a $250,000 challenge grant, which matched one dollar with every two dollars of additional monies raised with the goal of raising $750,000 to build the first phase of the new center. Chrissie Howorth, VNA Health Care's Associate of Development, worked closely with Vicki Morcos, Dunham Fund Partnership Officer, to raise the additional $500,000 needed to complete the center through other foundation grant funding, area corporate and business sponsorships, and individual contributions. The VNA created a Community Leadership Circle to honor those special donors who gave at significant levels in support of the expansion project.
