The Executive Board would like to share the letter that JPAC sent to Governor Jerry Brown and the Campaign for Prop 30 to show our support for this critical ballot initiative.
Dear Governor Brown:
The Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC) is pleased to inform you that it is in strong support of your Ballot Proposition 30, Sales and Income Tax Increase, on the November 2012 ballot. We believe this measure is an important step to restoring the State's fiscal stability.
JPAC is the largest single-state coalition of Jewish organizations in the nation, representing Jewish communities and nonprofit organizations across California. Comprised of Jewish Federations, Jewish Community Relations Councils, the Jewish Family Services Association of California, and myriad Jewish community advocacy organizations, we advocate on behalf of Jewish social service agencies, traditional community concerns, and broadly shared values that affect the citizens of our State.
JPAC supports Proposition 30 because it is essential to balancing the State's budget and avoiding devastating cuts to education, social services and public safety. One of JPAC's primary goals is to maintain critical social services for the elderly and indigent throughout the state. As you know, should this critical initiative fail, we anticipate a devastating impact to essential services for people all across the State.
JPAC supports Proposition 30 because we believe it is crucial in restoring fiscal stability in California. Since 2008, California's social services have suffered over $15 billion in cuts; public education has weathered a loss of over $11 billion over the same period. Proposition 30 will help fill the gaps and prevent further debilitating and drastic budget cuts that have put vital programs in jeopardy over the last few years. This is our best chance to raise the revenues we need to put the State's fiscal house in order.
JPAC supports Proposition 30 as a critical measure to move California out of our current budget crisis and allow the State to continue to provide necessary services for all Californians.
Sincerely,
Michael Sweet
