Oscar Buttler
Smooth-Voiced Oscar Butler headlines the
Second Saturday Community CoffeeHouse on February 13th

Cassette Opens Up the Evening

The Second Saturday Community CoffeeHouse offers up another great night of family entertainment this month.  Cassette opens up the evening with her sweet voice and sarcastic lyrics.  Then Oscar Butler will take the stage with his velvet tones and great guitar playing.

Guitarist and singer/songwriter Oscar Butler is someone you need to see and hear to believe. His smooth voice sliding from mid- baritone to the lower end of the tenor range warms and relaxes your senses like a long slow herbal massage.

If you have been fortunate enough to catch Oscar performing around Albuquerque area restaurants, festivals or private parties, or you have run across him in various venues from Los Angeles to Boston, then you have been the recipient of what can easily be described as a lyrical and melodious delicacy.   He has been called by the Weekly Alibi newspaper, "One of the best voices in Albuquerque."

Cassette is a freelance musician and an introverted artist hailing from ABQ, NM. When she is not avoiding the majority of the human race, she is playing music and being sarcastic.  Her original music has sweet melodies and an eerie side that sets her apart from other acoustic artists.

Combining soft vocals with a bit of sadness and pointless roughness, she is here to perform her "low" levels of talent and simply provide a pretty face on a stage.

FREE!  Love Offerings will be accepted.

The mission of the Second Saturday Community CoffeeHouse is to provide the East Mountains with quality musical experiences in a family-style, listening-room environment.  The events, along with snacks and beverages, are family friendly and free to the public.  The House opens at 6 pm and the performance starts promptly
at 6:30.

Held the second Saturday of each month, the events consist of an Opening Act and a Headliner except for two Open Mics per year.  The CoffeeHouse hosts both professional and amateur musicians and performers of all ages.  The response has been so positive that the event is already booked through 2016.

Each month's event is sponsored by a local business, family, or individual.  This month the event has two sponsors - East Mountain Resident Bob Moffat and the New Mexico Music Awards.  A sponsorship is $25 and is a tax-deductible donation.

The CoffeeHouse is held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (formerly the Unity Spiritual Center) at 1 Deanna Lane in Edgewood.  It is located just off Dinkle Road, 1.5 miles east of Mountain Valley Road, and 2.5 miles west of Highway 344.

Call for Opening Acts

We are booked through 2016 with headliners, but we need Opening Acts!  If you or someone you know is interested, please email admin@unityemtns.org with the info.  We don't pay our Openers, but we do feed them a home-cooked meal and we've been known to invite Openers to come back as Headliners.  We'd also love to feature some young up-and-coming musicians, so if you know any talented kids, send them our way!  More information can be found  on the musician page of our website.

Many Thanks to Our Volunteers and Sponsors!

The Second Saturday Community CoffeeHouse is run completely by volunteers and donations.  Many thanks to Fancy's Photo Solutions, Patricia Vansell and The New Mexico Music Awards for sponsoring our first five concerts this year!  Since we are a 501c3 organization, all donations are tax  deductible!

As for volunteers, for most of our 18 months, all the work has been lovingly done by two families.  We are exceedingly grateful that Bill Moffatt has agreed to MC for a second month this year while Anne-Marie is in Florida accepting her award, with co-writer Robyn Mackenzie, for her video "Choose Love"  You can see that video here:  https://youtu.be/ISx4Seoud8s

We are grateful and we still need more help with various aspects of running the CoffeeHouse.  Some ways to help:
  • Hang posters in East Mountain areas ~1-2 weeks before concert
  • Like to be on stage?  Be an MC!  We provide a script and you add character
  • Like to run sound equipment?  Assist our Soundman/Host and cover when he can't make it
  • Help with Setup and/or Tear Down
  • Purchase or Make Snacks for event
  • Help work in the kitchen during the event
  • Purchase or make dinner and deliver for musicians and volunteers (you, too)
  • Sponsor a night for $25 - any individual, family, or business can do this (and businesses can promote their stuff and be featured on our web page)
We feed all volunteers (and their families) dinner on concert night.

So the next time that clipboard is passed around, please consider how you can help.  Thank you.

Support Anne-Marie!
Anne-Marie Lax is a singer/songwriter from New Mexico.  She is a regular speaker at Unity Spiritual Center East Mountains and has been a featured performer at Second Saturday Community CoffeeHouse. Her first album Dancing in the Light is due to be released in the next few months. It was produced and partially co-written by the phenomenally talented Katie Gill, recorded, engineered and mixed by
John Wall  at Wall of Sound  Studios, and will be mastered by Jason Blum of Sigil Media. This collection of 12 positive and inspirational songs,  covering  genres from rock, blues, jazz and pop take you on a spiritual journey from the ridiculous to the sublime.  It features the talents of a multitude of amazing musicians including Jazz guitarist Michael Anthony and piano virtuoso Susan Clark. It's almost complete, with only  a couple more tracks to record, then mixing, mastering, album artwork and printing, as well as advertising. Anne-Marie has funded most of the project for items such as recording and paying the musicians, out of her own pocket, but NOW, with the project so near to completion, SHE NEEDS YOUR HELP!  Your contributions will go for finishing these last few tasks, as well as promotional items such as music videos and website design.
