Jim Jones
Western Folk Artist Jim Jones headlines the
Second Saturday Community CoffeeHouse on September 12th

Blue Moon Opening

The Second Saturday Community CoffeeHouse offers up another great night of family entertainment this month with Blue Moon opening up for Jim Jones.

Jim Jones is a Western folk artist who tells it like it wasis and will be in the great American West.  Native Texan, student of the West, he lives, sings and writes about cowboys, horses, cattle rustlers and such.  He also knows there's more to the story...how the coming of the train changed the West, how critical water is for survival.

He's performed in honky-tonks and churches, schools and Irish pubs, campfires and high teas.  Jim's singing, songwriting, hot guitar-picking and winning personality keeps him in demand on the Western music circuit, folk music venues and at house concerts, coffeehouses, schools and libraries throughout the country.

The 2012 release of "Borrowed Time," led to a 2013 Western Writers of America Spur Award for Western Song of the Year for his "Texas is Burnin'."  He now has eight Western Folk albums and three Western historical fiction novels under his belt.

His award-winning books, the Jared Delaney trilogy-Rustler's MoonColorado Moon andWaning Moon are set in northern New Mexico, "loosely based in fact...basically, a pack of lies I made up."  They have educated, informed and entertained readers around the world.

Falling in love late in life inspired Carl Allen and Sandra Kay Vieth to form the duo, Blue Moon, featuring original, folk, blues, country, and swing music. Carl's riveting
instrumentals on guitar and dobro are driven by Sandra's solid rhythm on guitar and bass and haunting vocals.

Sandra Kay Vieth has been performing throughout the West since 1987 as a singer/songwriter at a variety of venues.  In the nineties, Sandra played bass  and sang lead and harmony vocals in the band, Old Friends, featured at the Santa Fe
Melodrama, the Santa Fe Rodeo and at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame.

Carl Allen started playing guitar at age 15 and the dobro in the 1970's when he played at  coffeehouses in the Washington, DC area and with bands in Tucson from 1977 to 1984.  Since moving to Albuquerque in 1985, he has performed with Tapestry, Lunch at the  Dump, Cottonwood Trio, and Coyote Crossing. He is currently playing in a five-piece  group, Swingrass.

Sandra and Carl also perform with the western band, The Buffalo Bill Band.

Join us for coffee or tea, treats, and a wholesome family night in a listening room environment where new and seasoned performers can offer up their songs and stories to an attentive, all-ages audience. The House opens at 6 pm, music begins at 6:30.

FREE!  Love Offerings will be accepted.

The mission of the Second Saturday Community CoffeeHouse is to provide the East Mountains with quality musical experiences in a family-style, listening-room environment.  The events, along with snacks and beverages, are family friendly and free to the public.  The House opens at 6 pm and the performance starts promptly at 6:30.

Held the second Saturday of each month, the events consist of an Opening Act and a Headliner except for two Open Mics per year.  The CoffeeHouse hosts both professional and amateur musicians and performers of all ages.  The response has been so positive that the event is already booked into 2016.

Each month's event is sponsored by a local business, family, or individual.  This month no one has stepped up yet to sponsor the night for a $25 donation.

The CoffeeHouse is held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (the building formerly owned by the Unity Spiritual Center) at 1 Deanna Lane in Edgewood.  It is located just off Dinkle Road, 1.5 miles east of Mountain Valley Road, and 2.5 miles west of Highway 344.
