Hello Everyone,
Happy New Year! This is the time of year that resolutions are set (and let's face it, often broken). Many embark on detoxes, abstain from alcohol and/or start a new exercise program. Well, goo d luck to you! Here's an idea; combine the best of two healthy options! Hop on your bike and do a local self guided brewery tour. Not only are you getting exercise but you're also consuming some of the best quality ingredients in that craft beer and supporting local business. Win win! CAMRA Vancouver President Adam has some ideas for "New Beers Resolutions" for you below in Executive Update.

Very soon three more new breweries will be opening! Last issue we introduced you to Green Leaf Brewing in North Van. Around the corner from them and progressing nicely is Black Kettle Brewing. Timmy Brown's Surlie Brewing in Abbotsford is hoping to start brewing late next week. Last but certainly not least, the long anticipated Bomber Brewing in East Van is so close we can almost taste it! Word is beer is about to be brewed. Expect an announcement next week. Keep an eye on them here
THE RESULTS ARE IN! Jan Zeschky of The Province has released the results of Brewed Awakening's Year-In-Beer Poll. Your favourite B.C. beers, breweries, seasonals, pubs, styles! Stats! Percentage points! Bad puns! We're a bunch of "hop heads." Surprise surprise!?!
Tickets are on sale and moving fast for CiderWISE. A cider and gluten-free craft beer tasting at the Wise Hall on February 8th and presented by CAMRA Vancouver and UnTapped. The event participants have just been updated on our website. Have a peek at what will be on offer that day to sip and don't wait to get your ticket or you'll miss out!
It's AGM and Executive nomination time at CAMRA. Nominations for the CAMRA BC executive are open now until January 14th with elections taking place January 15th to 30th. Details here. CAMRA Vancouver's AGM is on February 16th. Nominations are open now for the executive. Details here. Remember, all executive positions are open for nominations. We encourage you to get involved, nominate a CAMRA member that is interested in joining our executive or get a member to nominate you. In each of the links above you'll find executive positions available and more information.
Craft Beer Around the Web
Total beer nerd alert! Video from Sierra Nevada Brewing. "Our Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale thrashing over six days in four traditional open fermenters. We release this beast of a beer, introduced in the winter of 1983, each January."
Quirky Beer Words
Move over Boston Round! Bring on the SQUEELER! Our Communications Liaison Sammie just returned from a trip to Australia where she discovered that they have affectionately named the one litre bottles squeelers, and we love it! That's what we'll be calling our CAMRA branded bottles from now on.
BTW we just got a new shipment in and will have them on hand at our AGM. Where can you fill these locally? There's a full list for you on our website.
Cheers, Monica Frost

Update from our President, Adam Chatburn "New Beers" Resolutions The excess of the holidays often leads to remorse in the dark days of January as we count the cost of the party season, financially and physically. However all is not lost! Moving into 2014, let's pledge to make a new beers resolution to stand us in good stead for the coming year. It's up to you if you want to cut down a bit but let's look at some ideas for positive changes: Read on

Craftbeer Community Spotlight
Located at 2095 Commercial Drive. Love craft beer? Good eats? Jazz? This update from Nate: "We are closed this week for a small renovation which includes adding four more taps to bring us to a total of 14. I know, who ever heard of so many taps in one place! Ok, so it's a modest increase but it will allow us to continue with our rotating taps and let us feature beers from some of the lower mainland's awesome new breweries while still bringing in interesting stuff from outside of BC.
As for events, we are continuing on with our very popular Sunday Jazz series from 4-7pm, which features some of the best jazz musicians in the city, which pairs nicely with craft beer. I'm pretty sure we are the only craft oriented place in the city that does regular jazz shows, though I could be wrong.
Anyway, we reopen on Friday with our expanded taps and are very excited about it." So are we Nate! I hear they serve up a mean Laksa now and then and I've been trying to get Nate to do an IPA and Laksa night sometime. I'll keep you posted on that one!
Would you like to see a craft beer establishment in your community featured in our Spotlight? Please email me with details.
Cheers,
Monica Frost
