Hello Everyone,
Happy Holidays! Just quick issue this time to catch you up on a few things coming up and then you can get back to your turkey leftovers, movie marathons, tasting room tours and holiday festivities.
Last week another new craft beer brewery opened in BC. Green Leaf Brewing is located in North Vancouver and had their soft-opening on December 20th. More details below in Craft Beer Community Spotlight. Our Corporate Supporter Spotlight has morphed into Craft Beer Community Spotlight. The goal is to feature and celebrate the overall craft beer community and the people and establishments that make up and support this community - establishments, brewers, bloggers, and you, the enthusiasts.
We've teamed up with UnTapped to present CiderWise, a cider and gluten-free beer tasting event on February 8th at The Wise Hall. More and more people are finding themselves gluten-intolerant and that can make enjoying craft beer difficult, however more and more gluten-free options exist, such as most ciders and the increasing number of Gluten-reduced and Gluten-free craft beers. We'll be showcasing ciders and gluten free beers made locally and from the US. Tickets are on sale now! More details below in Events.
An eight day series of events highlighting a broad selection of craft breweries while educating Victorians about craft beer. The week will kick off with a Cask Event featuring all participating breweries at the Victoria Public Market on March 1, with smaller tastings, seminars, and micro-events happening in between at various venues.

Update from our President, Adam Chatburn
2013 Year in Review "When I took over the Presidency from the esteemed Paddy Treavor in January I knew I had some big shoes to fill but I really had no idea what I was in for. However I knew that the new Executive knew what to do so I spent the first month with my mouth shut. I listened to them all, I listened to Paddy, I listened to BC President Rick Green and I did my best to remember everyone's name. Once I had my head around what was going on I met with each member of the Executive individually and talked to them about their work, specifically what we could do to make it easier, efficient and better for members...read on.
Update from our Education Liaison, Danny Seeton
Beer History 101 - Jan 28th @ 7pm SOLD OUT
Beer and Food Pairing 101 - Feb 8th @ 7pm. Wine has long been held as the beverage that compliments food perfectly. This is a conspiracy. Beer is in fact a superior partner to food. This class will teach the basics of how to pair beer with different foods and even how to incorporate beer into your food. Guest presenter: Chester Carey, Canada's first Certified Cicerone®, a Sommelier, homebrewer, and award winning BBQ'er (Check out Re-Up BBQ) Tickets on sale NOW!
A bit about Danny Seeton, CAMRA Vancouver's very own Education Liaison; he's an award winning homebrewer, a National rank BJCP beer judge, and has been lecturing about beer history and brewing at UBC and for the VanBrewers homebrew club for the past 4 years.

Craftbeer Community Spotlight
On December 20th another new brewery opened in BC...
Let us introduce you to Green Leaf Brewing Co. in North Vancouver Founder Martin Ebadi and Brewmaster Tim Kramer "Our philosophy at Green Leaf Brewing is to place Quality and Sustainability before profit or growth for growth's sake. All of our beers are brewed using carefully selected ingredients, patience and attention to detail, as well as genuine love and respect for the products. In the spirit of craft brewing we want to brew solid traditional styles as well as to push the boundaries of beer as we seek to innovate, explore and discover. Our beers are served in freshly-filled growlers, because we believe that freshness is of the utmost importance to your experience of our products. We are very excited to be opening our brewery in North Vancouver. Our goal is to inspire the Lonsdale Quay community about the wonders of craft beer. In addition to selling the freshest, most delicious beers possible, Green Leaf will also offer in-depth brewery tours and beer-tasting events. We keep the emphasis on our neighbourhood, by encouraging the creative use of beer in foods around the Quay and using exclusively locally-farmed ingredients for our special seasonal beers. The possibilities for craft brewing are endless, and it is our aim to demonstrate this not only through the beers we brew, but with the information and services we provide."Currently they can only serve one 12oz glass of beer per person per day but they have applied for a lounge license so things will change. The brewery fills both one and two liter growlers off their taps. It looks like they currently have a Pale Ale and a Stout available but as you know that can change quickly as things run out.
Mike of Mike's Craft Beer was on hand that day and wrote this post with photos.
Would you like to see a craft beer establishment in your community featured in our Spotlight? Please email me with details.
Cheers,
Monica Frost
