Hello Everyone,

Well, there's never a dull moment in the craft beer community anymore is there? On Monday, Parliamentary Secretary and Liberal MLA, John Yap, handed over his report to Attorney General and Justice Minister Suzanne Anton with his recommendations for modernizing BC liquor policies based on information collected via the massive consultation with BC citizens and stakeholders in the BC alcohol world. We'll keep you updated on that one as more information comes out. In the meantime you can read CAMRA Powell River President (and VanEast Beer Blog) Paddy Treavor's blog outlining what he thinks will come out of it.

The highly anticipated grand opening of the new Central City Brewers and Distillers is finally here and happening this Friday! Also YVRBeerTweetup have announced their 2nd annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party happening on December 12th at the Score on Davie. There's "Reinbeer", a Cask Fest/Toy Drive happening at The Cobalt on December 22nd. Alibi Room has been whispering about their 500th tap list rotation planning in the works. Last but not least, we at CAMRA Vancouver have something special to share for our next event happening February 8th - CiderWISE - A Cider & Gluten Free Beer Tasting Event at the Wise Hall. Full details on these and many other events are all listed below in Events.

On Tuesday December 3rd from 4pm-11pm, St. Augustine's Vancouver will be St Augustines hosting a Fundraiser for the Philippines that have been destroyed by typhoon Haiyan. All proceeds from Parallel 49 will be donated to the cause and there will also be a special feature menu available. Quirky Beer Words

What is a Randall (aka Randall the Enamel Animal) and why do brewers use one?

Randall is an organoleptic hop transducer module, a double-chamber filter that you connect to a tap of your favorite beer and fill with flavor-enhancing ingredients. It's invention credited to Dogfish Head out of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. To see an example of one used locally visit the taproom at Parallel 49 where you'll see their version of a Randall in action. CAMRA Vancouver Executive Update

CAMRA Vancouver Members save the date! Our Annual AGM will be on February 6th at The Biltmore from 12 - 3pm. Full details to be announced SOON!

Update from our President, Adam Chatburn

 CAMovember

This month your CAMRA Vancouver Executive have been raising money for Men's Cancer charities by growing our mo's! So far we've raised over $1000 but with less than a week to go it's time for a final push! We were challenged to a Mo competition by CAMRA BC - South Fraser Branch who have got some good facial hair already but their donations are lagging behind us - however, they might be holding off until the last minute to try and beat us at the finish line!

While we look like a bunch of angry thugs I can assure you that we are all lovely people! Your Vancouver Mo-Bros are... You've GOT to see this photos!

Update from our Education Liaison, Danny Seeton

The CAMRA Vancouver Education Series continues with our next classes scheduled for 2014:

Beer History 101 - Beer is the stuff of civilization. Without it we might still be living in caves and probably be consigned to drinking only wine. Guest presenter: Ken Beattie, Vancouver's resident Prud'hommeŽ Beer Educator. (Previously postponed)

Beer and Food Pairing 101 - Wine has long been held as the beverage that compliments food perfectly. This is a conspiracy. Beer is in fact a superior partner to food. This class will teach the basics of how to pair beer with different foods and even how to incorporate beer into your food. Guest presenter: Chester Carey, Canada's first Certified CiceroneŽ, a Sommelier, homebrewer, and award winning BBQ'er (Check out Re-Up BBQ)

Visit our website for more information, dates and tickets.

CAMRA Education

A bit about Danny Seeton, CAMRA Vancouver's very own Education Liaison; he's an award winning homebrewer, a National rank BJCP beer judge, and has been lecturing about beer history and brewing at UBC and for the VanBrewers homebrew club for the past 4 years.
