Hello Everyone,

Summer is a particularly busy time in the craft beer community. In the past couple of weeks we've seen #YVRBeerTweetUp Beer and Baseball, a Brooklyn Brewing pairing dinner, Zwanze Day draw (with an amazing special line-up of beer for the evening to console the ones who didn't win, like me!) at Alibi Room, 30 Days of IPA with Donnelly Group and more. Well, it's not over yet! Check out the new events coming up below. Also, don't forget that October is officially BC Craft Beer Month and to start, the 4th Annual BC Beer Awards & Festival tickets go on sale September 3rd (details below in Events).

Just in from St Augustine's on Commercial Drive "We have upgraded to 60 taps! 54 taps of craft beer and cider, with 6 taps of BC wine coming soon..." WOW! Have you checked out their "live beer menu"?

Reminder that this Friday Aug 23rd 11am - 9pm, is the Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers Grand Opening.

CAMRA Growlers

CAMRA BC Joins the Growler Revolution!

The CAMRA Vancouver growlers are back! They will be available for purchase at the Rio event and other opportunities TBA. The Growlers (aka Boston Round - 1 litre) have our beautiful new logo on the front; on the back we've put a website link to a list of the breweries and brewpubs in Vancouver that do growler fills, a space so that the brewery can write on what's inside and best of all gradations that tell you how much is left inside (approximately). The other use for the gradations is that if you have a short pour or if there's a FUSS dispute you can quickly settle the matter by pouring it into the bottle!

Craft Beer Around the Web
Untapped (one of our Corporate Supporters) posted this cool video on Twitter called "Craft Beer - A Hopumentary" Sure, it's mostly focused on the US beer scene but definitely interesting to watch.

Quirky Beer Words

Cyser - also known as an Apple Melomel. "Cyser is a fermented beverage. It is a type of mead. Mead is considered by some to be mankind's oldest fermented beverage. Mead is simply honey and water that has fermented. Early examples were fermented by wild yeast. Modern manufactured mead is a controlled product just as wine is. Makers control the variables in the manufacture, yielding a consistent product. When honey is mixed with fruit juice the resulting fermentation is a type of mead known as metheglin. When the fruit juice used in making metheglin is apple juice - the resulting fermentation is known as cyser."  Dave Hermann

Executive Update

CAMRA Powell RiverUpdate from our President, Adam ChatburnPowellRiver
Just last week the CAMRA BC executive voted to approve a brand new chapter in Powell River. Headed up by the legendary Paddy Treavor who relocated there this summer, they are already gaining lots of new members and scheduling some awesome craft beer events. It's wonderful to welcome another chapter into the CAMRA BC fold and see the craft beer explosion continue its momentum. I'm pleased that Paddy has stepped back up to the Presidential plate and I look forward to the Vancouver Chapter's bus-trip for Oktoberfest in Powell River! For more information on this road-trip see our website and follow them here Follow us on Twitter  Like us on Facebook

"Congratulations on getting the latest CAMRA BC chapter up + running - look forward to working with you in the future! Welcome back, Paddy!"  Glen Stusek, President CAMRA BC - Victoria Branch

"CAMRA BC warmly welcomes the new Powell River branch to the campaign. This extends CAMRA BC's consumer advocacy and education beyond the main population centres of the Lower Mainland and Greater Victoria. This comes at an important time when the government is undertaking a major review of BC's liquor regulations. Our congratulations and thanks to Paddy Treavor, former CAMRA Vancouver President, for spearheading this." Rick Green, President, CAMRA BC
