BC Liquor Law Reform Post Election: Where Do We Go From Here?
Article by Paddy Treavor or VanEast Beer Blog
"The election hangover has long past and British Columbians who were excited about the possibility of the NDP taking charge and following through on their promise to reform and modernize our provincial liquor laws "one practical step at a time" have come to grips with the reality that we have four more years ahead of us with the Liberals steering the political ship. Hopefully not four more years of the same old, same old in regards to BC liquor policies, liquor law enforcement and support of the craft beer industry." So where do we go from here?
Paddy takes a look at those who will be playing the modernize BC liquor law game and how this may impact the craft beer scene, at least in the short term. Read Paddy's full article here.

"Our fun and informative brewery tours provide you with an exclusive peak behind the curtain of life in a Vancouver brewery and are a great way to explore some of the city's oldest neighborhoods. Take in the smell of fermenting beer, meet the brewery staff, learn how your favourite beers are made and experience the magic that is the craft beer making process." CAMRA Members can now enjoy a 20% discount on their tours!

YouTube Channel Launched!
CAMRA BC - Vancouver Chapter is proud to announce that we now have a YouTube channel which features clips from our Education Events. These videos are available on youtube (subscribe to our channel!) and also in the education section of our website. We hope that this education resource combined with the presentation from the classes will allow people who can't come to our Education events to still learn about different styles and the national histories of craft beer. We have more education events planned and we'll be adding them to the YouTube channel as they happen so check our events tab and YouTube channel regularly.
More information and links to our videos here.

CAMRA Corporate Supporter Spotlight
Please join us in welcoming our newest Corporate Supporters!
"Our store is located in the heart of Kitsilano at 2289 West Broadway. We are a full service liquor store that has greatly expanded its craft beer selection in the past six months. We have regular craft beer tastings, craft beer giveaways and always have new craft beers coming in every single week. A good part of the reason I feel we have a great craft beer selection is that a lot of the products we carry have been brought in at the suggestion of our customers. There is no doubt a craft beer community out there and we are pleased to be a part of it and love to hear their suggestions. This of course is why we are so happy to be a part of CAMRA." Dave Benson *Kitsilano Liquor Store will be offering valid card carrying CAMRA Members a 10% discount on craft beer.
"Opening Summer 2013 in Vancouver's iconic Salt Building, CRAFT Beer Market will feature an extensive menu of handcrafted food, a great atmosphere and Canada's largest selection of draft beer with over 140 beer on tap! A stunning central island bar with an endless fleet of tap handles (140 to be exact!), will greet you as you walk in and will pour everything from classic lagers to obscure ales and will be connected to the glass enclosed keg room. The custom built keg room will be able to hold up to 5000 gallons of beer at any given time and the one of a kind beer system will maintain a constant temperature keeping the beer fresh and pouring a perfectly chilled pint every time. The beer list will include almost every BC craft brewery as well as some offerings from across Canada, the United States and Europe." - Alison Robertson

Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers
We continue our series of interviews with organizations who support CAMRA and the craft beer heroes behind them. We're excited to introduce you to the folks who brew your favourite beers, run your local homebrew store, sling suds at your local taproom, or make sure your liquor store is stocked with craft beer deliciousness.
This week's spotlight is on the brand new microbrewery AND distillery, Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers. This North Shore operation is the brain-child of owners Shawn Bethune and Shae De Jaray, who threw in the towel at their engineering day jobs to pursue the dream of opening their very own fermentorium.

Homebrew Happenings
Barley's Homebrewing Supplies
Hop Profile: Sterling - Sterling could be considered an American-grown Saaz substitute. It comes from a mix of Czech Saaz, Cascade and a few other varieties. It is a floral, dual-use hop with alpha acids ranging from 6%- 9%. It's described as having a slightly spicy fragrance with a strong helping of herbal/floral aromas and a hint of citrus. Like other noble hop varieties, Saaz is quite susceptible to disease and fungus, making Sterling a heartier, more reliable alternative. Try Sterling in a Czech lager or pilsner or in an
American Ale. Visit their website for more blog articles and information.
Hops Connect
Now featuring a Hop of the Month on sale. June is Nugget. Nugget is an exceptionally cleanbittering hop characterized by a heavy herbal aroma. It has strong yields that make it a solid value for Lagers. Visit their website for more information.

Cask Nights
Missing our Cask Nights listed in the Newsletter? Not to worry; we have something even better! On our website in the Events calendar we have the various regular cask night locations and times listed and will be adding special one offs regularly too. Then, to find out what the actual cask is (which is what we post on Twitter and Facebook on the day of) you can simply refer to the Twitter Feed on the right side bar of our web page. You might have to look for a few seconds to see the location you're interested in come up in the rotation. We generally tweet mid morning what the cask(s) will be for the evening. We hope that this is a good solution and will no longer have reason to miss another event again. So make sure you have the Events Calendar bookmarked and view it regularly to help you plan which cask night and event you would like to attend. Click HERE to view the Events Calendar
