The 2013 Canadian Brewing Awards recently took place in Victoria. There were many many
winners from BC Breweries and we congratulate you!

Jan Zeschy of The Province featured this one award of extra special note: "Barely six months since itopened at the tail end of 2012, Powell Street Craft Brewery upset the odds at the 2013 Canadian Brewing Awards on Saturday night by winning the coveted Beer of the Year award." Canadian Beer Band. It started as a very Canadian game for music fans and beer lovers alike: CBC Music's Grant Lawrence challenged you to mash up a Canadian band name with a beer

style under the hashtag #CDNbandbeer. You responded with names like Nickelbock, Elliot

Brewed and Barley Rae Jepsen. BC Breweries include Cannery Brewing, R & B Brewing,
Townsite Brewing and Old Yale Brewing. View the full article with the finalists and breweries involved.

Correction

My apologies! I linked to the wrong Bridge Brewing last week. North Vancouver's Bridge Brewing hosted the first North Shore Growler 10k this past weekend. Here's more info via Beer Me BC. Of the 50 people entered, 25 ran with 2 water filled growlers. 24 made it. No spillage or breakage. Fun event and for a great cause!

More running and beer! There's an event coming up in September that starts and finishes at Central City Brewing. Surrey International Music Marathon. A bunch of us have already signed up for the half marathon. Want to join us? Email me

Cask Fest and New Membership System
Last weekend CAMRA BC - Vancouver Chapter, in partnership with the Portside Pub  hosted the Annual Spring Sessional Cask Festival. I'm not alone in saying that it was the best event CAMRA BC has ever hosted. It boasted a great selection of session-strength beers featuring tasty

offerings from both the stalwarts of Vancouver's brewing scene as well excellent work from some of the new kids on the block. A sell out crowd drained the casks in record time!

I'd like to thank again a few people for their hard work, especially Amanda Barry, CAMRA's Event Coordinator, and Aja Tylor from the Portside (pictured right); together they made it all work beautifully...read the full update. More photos to shared soon.

Deep Cover Brewers and DistillersDeep Cove

"Vancouver's newest brewery. So new, in fact, that CAMRA members were the first to get a taste of our beer at the Spring Session Cask Festival last week. Owners Shae De Jaray (former Steamworks Brewer) and Shawn Bethune along with brewer Kevin Emms (formerly of Coal Harbour Brewing) have been working hard to get their North Shore brewery and distillery ready to go for your summer drinking pleasure. The emphasis at Deep Cove is on the highest quality of tradition and craftsmanship - the beer speaks for itself - but the passion behind it is clear:

Celebrate. Everyday." Trish Garratt  Follow us on TwitterLike us on Facebook

Cask Nights
Missing our Cask Nights listed in the Newsletter? Not to worry; we have something even better! On our website in the Events calendar we have the various regular cask night locations and times listed and will be adding special one offs regularly too. Then, to find out what the actual cask is (which is what we post on Twitter and Facebook on the day of) you can simply refer to the Twitter Feed on the right side bar of our web page. You might have to look for a few seconds to see the location you're interested in come up in the rotation. We generally tweet mid morning what the cask(s) will be for the evening. We hope that this is a good solution and will no longer have reason to miss another event again. So make sure you have the Events Calendar bookmarked and view it regularly to help you plan which cask night and event you would like to attend. Click HERE to view the Events Calendar
