Hello Everyone,

An important PRESS RELEASE went out today from CAMRA BC, Vancouver Chapter titled "Future of Vancouver Brewing Debated at City Hall." Please see the Executive Update below for a message and more information from CAMRA Vancouver President Adam Chatburn and a link to the Press Release.

Brewers
Out and about on the weekend, I stopped in at Parallel 49 Brewing to fill my growler and bumped into a few well known faces in the brewing industry talking beer over a taster or two. Brian and Rebecca of Crannog Brewing, James Walton of Storm Brewing and Phil Brian from Parallel 49. I was invited to join them on a brewery tour where they swapped stories, ideas and processes.

Craft beer community at its best! Cheers gang!

It's an afternoon affair with the best of intentions, to help raise some funds to help tide this lovely human being over through some tough times. Craft Beer Around the Web

Robert Catherall of the Capilano Courier recently wrote "Growing Pains - A Toast to Liquor Reform which discusses many of the archaic liquor laws that we in BC deal with on a daily basis.

The NEW YVR BEER TWEETUP website is is now live. Craftbeer and Social-Media. Events, giveaways, promo and more!

Quirky Beer Words

Maybe not a quirky beer word per se, but perhaps a type of beer that you're not familiar with or would like to know more about? SOUR BEER. They are becoming more and more popular. Just this past week BierCraft announced their sour beer pairing dinner "Pucker Up" and it sold out in no time at all. Blogger Leo (and past Newsletter Editor) wrote this excellent post called "Sour Beers in Vancouver" a little while back.

Green Table Network

"Across the entire food service industry, from food courts to fine dining, food trucks to coffee shops, Green Table there's been a huge shift towards going green. But which companies are really doing it? The role of the Green Table Network is to acknowledge food service operators who have committed to improving their environmental performance while serving the best quality, tastiest food imaginable. That acknowledgement comes after we conduct a rigorous review of their operations. The Green Table Network designation only goes to those who deserve it. That way, consumers know they're legit. Over the coming weeks and months, the Green Table Network will be expanding our member base and our consumer awareness: if you are a Food Service Operator or know a restaurant or company that would fit within our framework, let us know! Visit greentable.net for more information, to sign up to receive news and updates, or to contact our Operations or Member Advisor departments." - Randall Cook  Email: randall.cook@globe.ca

Homebrew Happenings

Barley's Homebrewing Supplies' website features articles, tips and hop profiles.

Hop Profile: Sorachi Ace
Sorachi Ace is a Japanese dual-use, high alpha acid hop (16.5%). It gained popularity in 2008 when North American hops were in short supply and after Brooklyn Brewery developed their Saison, Brooklyn Sorachi Ace.

This hop lends flavours and aromas of lemon and dill. It's ancestry is of Brewer's Gold and Saaz. It's recommended for Saisons and IPAs but why not try a 'summer stout'. The zesty lemon could really compliment those roasted coffee notes. Experimentation! That's what homebrewing is all about.

Sorachi Ace hops are available at Barley's in 1 oz packages.

Cask Nights
Missing our Cask Nights listed in the Newsletter? Not to worry; we have something even better! On our website in the Events calendar we have the various regular cask night locations and times listed and will be adding special one offs regularly too. Then, to find out what the actual cask is (which is what we post on Twitter and Facebook on the day of) you can simply refer to the Twitter Feed on the right side bar of our web page. You might have to look for a few seconds to see the location you're interested in come up in the rotation. We generally tweet mid morning what the cask(s) will be for the evening. We hope that this is a good solution and will no longer have reason to miss another event again. So make sure you have the Events Calendar bookmarked and view it regularly to help you plan which cask night and event you would like to attend. Click HERE to view the Events Calendar

If you would like your Cask information promoted on our website, Facebook and Twitter please email Mike.
