Hello everyone,
Let's catch up! Over the past couple of weeks there's been "Tap Takeovers", casks galore popping up at new locations around town and one FANtastic Winter Cask Festival at Central City. It doesn't stop there though. Coming up February 18th is the much anticipated Alibi Room 400th Tap rotation. This time it's 4 days, opening at 4pm and $4 - 10oz glasses. They are promising "many many many awesome beers from BC & beyond."
Portside Pub
Last week Gastown saw the launch of its newest pub and music venue. The historic, three-level, Portside Pub is located at 7 Alexander Street . Overseeing the pub's beer program will be the Portside's very own Cicerone, or beer sommelier, Aja Tylor. Tylor will be managing the pub's 24 craft beers, which will pump through 48 taps split over three levels. The beers will range from locally sourced favourites including the lager and IPA from Victoria based Phillips Brewery, as well as international brews like the Belgium Palm Amber Ale, Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel, and Delirium Tremens. "Portside will be all about craft beer, local music, and great atmosphere," says owner Mark Brand. Oh and they have CASKS! On now is Parallel 49's Hay Fever Spring Saison. The Post Valentine's Day Break Up Show: Rio Theatre
A year ago The Rio was locked in a battle with the government, facing crippling liquor license restrictions. Public outcry and campaigning through social media ensued and eventually things worked out for them and the people of Vancouver. Coming up this month is The Post Valentine's Day Break Up Show; a hilarious variety-style show with stand-up comedy, videos, sketches, live music & burlesque! Starring Byron Bertram and Gerald Gerald Geraldson. It's so big it's running over two nights Feb 22 & 23rd. Some of the CAMRA Vancouver exec members will be on hand Friday night. Come visit our booth, say hello, sign up or renew your membership and enjoy a fantastic show! Full show details below in Events.
Sharkey's Seafood Bar and Grille in Ladner were tweeting about this and I had to look it up. How good does this sound? Drunken Garlic Kenebec Poutine. Home chipped kenebec fries, steeped in hopped ale, tossed in garlic, topped with homemade beef gravy, squeeky Quebecois cheese curds and chopped green onions. $7.99 available all day! Craft beer in the 'burbs? You bet! Check out their tap line-up too! Tapped or on deck: Ninkasi Brewing Tricerahops Double IPA, Ninkasi Brewing Total Domination IPA, Central City Red Racer IPA, Innis & Gunn Irish Whisky Cask Scottish Ale, Odin's Gift Ruby Ale, Parallel 49 Salty Scot. Executive Update
This week there has been some great news, the law has now been changed so that caterers are allowed to serve alcohol. This is a small step in the right direction towards a more sensible set of provincial liquor laws and I'm sure it will prove very popular. Let's hope that this momentum continues and isn't met with the usual two steps back that seems to accompany every slight relaxation of the rules. Soon BC will be in full election mode and CAMRA's voice as the advocate for responsible craft beer enthusiasts will be ringing in the ears of every candidate as we push for a more sensible, fair and progressive approach to craft beer legislation. We would love to hear your thoughts; do you have an issue that you'd like to have addressed or an idea of how we could get more traction with the politicians during the election? Maybe you've got a few minutes here and to get involved and send out a few emails and letters? Please email me at pres@camravancouver.ca or come say hello on Feb 22nd at the Rio event as mentioned above, and let's take this chance to make a real, positive, lasting difference to the liquor laws in BC.
Cheers, Adam Chatburn

CAMRA Corporate Supporter Spotlight
We have a few of our newest Corporate Supporters to introduce to you this week and more to come next time.
Of Desks is a design and development studio with desks in Squamish, blocks away from Howe Sound Brewing; and New Westminster, across the tracks from Hops Pub and The Met. The cofounders Darrell & Wes Koopmans are part of the Howe Sound Mug Club and the New Westminster Beer Club respectively. Wes is also working to bring together some of New Westminster's home brewers. When they're not doing client work, they are scheming on the design plans for the upcoming ofbeers.com, follow @ofbeers for more and reach out if you want to help. Get in touch at start@ofdesks.com if you have some project ideas or just want to talk beer or design!

Parallel 49 Brewing
"For those who haven't heard of us (really?), P49 is brewing up unique, well-crafted beers in the heart of East Van, taking interesting twists on traditional styles, or tackling styles which are under-represented in the market. We recently built a dedicated temperature-controlled aging room allowing us to implement barrel aging and sour programs that will pay dividends for CAMRA members for years to come.
Please visit our tasting room at the brewery to sample our latest creations, purchase bottles or fill a growler. Cheers!"

Edible Vancouver Magazine
We believe that beer is food; Kraft Dinner is not. Butter is good; margarine is just yellow gunk. Soil beats strip malls, food gardens are preferable to lawns, and farmers are our heroes. We believe that the best beers have a special ingredient-passion. And that bad beers (hello, Bud Light Lime Mojitos) have only one saving grace; they work fine as slug traps. We write about beer in every issue, and we ONLY write about BC brews.

Seasonal Releases and Reviews
Just in! Chimay (Tripel) White has arrived and you'll find it only on tap at BierCraft.

"Of a golden colour, the Trappist beer combines sweet and bitter in a rare balance. The beer's aroma felt in the mouth comes from the hops' perfumes: above all, they are fruity touches of Muscat grapes and raisins, even ripe apples."
It will likely tap this weekend once Ommegang Three Philosophers is tapped out. Hmm might want to run and get some of that first too...follow their twitter for an update.
Parallel 49 is launching "Lord Of The Hops" in two weeks. 7.2% alcohol IPA. Their launch party for "Lord Of The Hops"is on February 14th (Valentine's Day!) at Alibi Room. No details, yet, but it sounds like it will be a blast.
Parallel 49 Vow Of Silence hit the market this week, too.
Russell Brewing's Truth Serum hit liquor stores last week. Truth Serum is a wheat barley wine that packs a 10% abv w/ 50% Canadian Wheat Malt and a blend of imported Pilsner and Munich Malts. Aggressively hopped with French Strisselspalt and US Columbus Hops. Strisselspalt Hops provide this with abundant notes of Blackcurrant. Yum!
