It's Official: Phase 2 Underway

Rainbow Village has completed fundraising for The Community Center, Phase 2 of the "Building Strong Communities... One Family at a Time campaign"! This $2.9 million project will focus on building a three-story, 21,000 square foot building that will be home to Rainbow Village's children and youth programs, adult life skills programs, as well as a community dining hall with a kitchen that will allow residents, staff and volunteers to come together to share meals, programs and special events like never before. The Center will also provide a much needed full-service early childhood education center on site that will serve children 6 weeks through four years of age. A Media Center and chapel will complete the project, with Schoppman Construction as contractor.

Generous gifts were made by individuals, families, foundations and businesses, but the final $400,000 investment to complete funding and enable construction to begin, came from Frank Circelli, Founder & Chairman of Gem Shopping Network. His gift also allowed Rainbow Village to secure a grant of $500,000 from a foundation that required all other funds be raised before releasing. He comments, "Rainbow Village is a blessing to so many in our community and I am honored to be a part of this organization."

The "Building Strong Communities... One Family at a Time" campaign is a three-phase campaign which, when complete, will be an all-inclusive, 30- family Village supported by The Community Center and Family Service Center. Construction has begun on Phase 2 which is located on the Rainbow Village property fronted by Duluth Highway 120 and backed by Fox Street. The Community Center will be located on the site of the former Rainbow Village quadraplexes.

"When we launched the campaign, we knew that many generous investors with a passion for helping the homeless would step out in faith, and they have not disappointed us," Rainbow Village CEO Nancy Yancey said in a statement. "We are immensely honored and proud of the support we've received to be able to move into the next phase of the campaign and ensure Rainbow Village will continue to impact lives for generations to come. We are forever indebted to the generosity and blessing of Frank Circelli and the other investors in this campaign, and we can never say it enough: Thank You."

Plans moving forward include not only construction of The Community Center, with an anticipated completion date of 2nd quarter, 2014, but a continued effort to raise $1.2 million for Phase 3 (three additional apartment buildings), and $1.7 million for operational support for the tripled capacity of serving up to 180 individuals at a time. There is still time to invest and many investor recognition naming opportunities are still available.
