This week at Elkins Pointe

Hello, Titans!

With only two weeks remaining, it is a bittersweet time of year packed with celebrations and good-byes. Our Titans are working hard to keep those grades up and end the year on a high note. Parents, I need for you to do your part as well by paying close attention to all newsletters, phone blasts, and e-blasts to help us make sure that everyone is on track and that we are able to close out the year smoothly. Now, let me get to it. This week contains lots of reminders as well as new information, so read carefully.

Let's Celebrate!

Chorus Trip

Congratulations to Mr. Baugh and his Crooners, who performed wonderfully in Helen on Monday of last week.

Hat Day Fundraiser

Our Culture Club raised over $375 with their Hat Day Fundraiser for Nepal Relief last week!

STEM Day

Last week's STEM day was a great event! With Barbie Bungee Jumping and Rocket Launching, our Titans had the opportunity to have fun with Science and Math. Here are just a few examples of the work.

Friday night's 8th grade dance was an absolutely fabulous event, as always. Thank you to our wonderful PTSA who topped themselves once again! Here are a few shots from the event ... such a beautiful way to begin celebrating the end of the year for our 8th graders.

Special Olympics

Our Team Titan for Special Olympics did an excellent job this year. They had a warm send-off, with students lining up to give them a high-five and wishing them good luck at the event. We are so grateful for everyone who supports this spectacular day.

Informational Items

FINAL EXAMS are coming up soon!

In an effort to maximize instructional time, most teachers are going with a performance based assessment (think project or presentation) rather than a traditional assessment. We hope this will allow students to spend their last few days focused on learning and enjoying school rather than coming home exhausted and stressed about exams. We will still follow an altered bell schedule to make time for these assessments, and all students are still required to be in attendance. Please support us by making sure your child is present. Remember that any absences during the last week of school will be unexcused without a medical note or principal approval in advance, only granted under extenuating circumstances.

Community Cares Event

Our annual Community Cares Title I Event will be held May 12th from 5:00 - 6:15pm in the Media Center - just before the concert begins at 6:30pm. This is an important event where staff and community members work together to determine the needs of our school and how we can best serve ALL of the students at EPMS. We hope that you can attend. Click here for more details.

AVID

Parents of students participating in the AVID program next year are invited to attend the EPMS AVID "1st Class" Parent Information Night and commitment celebration on Monday May 18th from 6:00-7:15pm.  We will provide more detailed information to parents about AVID at Elkins Pointe, college preparedness, and advanced placement.   See you on May 18th at 6:00 as we celebrate and support the 1st class of AVID in the NWLC.

Early Release Days

Our Early Release Dates have been approved! We worked hard to pair our dates with holidays and workdays to maximize time for our families. Don't forget that the first half of every one of these dates will be an Authentic Learning Day, packed with activities in the local community to bring learning to life! Our tentative release time will be 12:55pm. This may flex by 5 or 10 minutes pending transportation schedule. Click here to see our release dates, along with our feeder school dates

Requests for Flexibility

Would you like to learn more about the requests for flexibility next year? Visit http://school.fultonschools.org/ms/elkinspointe/Pages/LSGCHome.aspx where all LSGC information is available, including the proposals and details for flexibility at the bottom of the page.

8th Grade Activities

8th Grade Parents, as you know, there are several special events for our 8th grade Titans during the last couple of weeks of the year. Please click here for some details provided to you by our PTSA about our 8th grade finale activities.

Visit the clinic!

If your child has medication in the clinic, please pick it up before the last day of school.  If not picked up, it will be disposed of.  If you have medication for the next school year, new forms (links below) must be completed.  Please contact the clinic at Ext. 137 for questions.

Authorization to Carry SHS-2

Authorization to Give SHS-1

Are you returning to EPMS next year?

Please notify Ellen Walsh in the Counseling Office if your child will not be returning for the next school year and if your 8th grader will not attend Roswell HS or Milton.

Student Lounge

Students and teachers, on your way to lunch you have been watching an under-utilized, dark corner transform into an energetic and stylish study nook. When Principal Springman approached PTSA with an innovative idea for a unique space where students could brainstorm, or teachers could hold workshops, PTSA was excited to collaborate.  Because enrichment is key, PTSA dedicated 100% of student funds raised from student PTSA memberships.  On May 15th at 1:30 p.m., PTSA students are invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony to announce the Grand Opening of "Cafe Elan," a learning studio for all EPMS students.  Next year, we look forward to growing student PTSA membership, because when students become involved in PTSA, our school has panache!

Math Instructional Resources

Fulton County Schools is seeking public feedback on instructional resources for Algebra I and Geometry.  The resources being considered are currently on display in the Media Center on from May 6 - June 5 between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm, at the North Learning Center (450 Northridge Parkway, Sandy Springs, 30350).  For more information, contact Becky Patterson, pattersonbm@fultonschools.org

Georgia Milestones Survey

Students are encouraged to take this survey, as the state is interested in their feedback to improve the testing process for next year.  Please follow this link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Georgia_Milestones_Student_Survey

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - 2015-2016 School Year

IMPORTANT INFORMATION regarding Summer Registration and Paperwork for the 2015-2016 School Year:

Please remember that there are a few paperwork items that you need to complete at Elkins Pointe Middle School before next school year. Parents are welcome to come by the office during school hours. Additionally, our office will be open starting May 26th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00am - 3:00pm as well as Mondays and Fridays by appointment to assist you with this. Please be sure to complete these items so that your child can have a successful start to the school year at the end of summer.

"Get the Golden Ticket" - That's right! The details are in. Next year's requirements are a bit different, which means...

As a result of the above changes...

  •          7th and 8th grade students will not need to get a "golden ticket" this summer. We trust parents to make sure that their address and immunizations are up to date and will deal with any missing information after school begins. These parents will attend Information Day on August 5th from 1:00 - 3:00pm. Schedules will be available as well as fees/paperwork, but not textbooks (no lines).
  •          6th grade students will come home with a note on 6th Grade Student Kick Off Day (which is JULY 31st 7am - 3pm) that will be GREEN if all is clear or PINK if they are missing items. Parents must hold onto this note until the 6th Grade PARENT Information Day on Information Day on August 5th.
    • Note: That's right. 6th grade Parents will come to Information Day for 6th graders on August 5th from 10:30 - 12:00 to handle all fees and paperwork. Students will not attend on this day as classrooms and hallway will be unavailable due to teachers attending the STUDENT KICK OFF on July 31st.
