This week at Elkins Pointe

Hello, Titans.

As we wrap up our final week of testing and print off the progress reports for tomorrow, I must say ... it's hard to believe that we only have 4 weeks of school left. This year has been full of so many celebrations of staff and achievements by our students. Our administrative and leadership team has hit its stride, balancing one another beautifully and supporting one another to carry the work of the school forward. Our teachers have continued to impress us daily, with their eagerness to see their students succeed and willingness to do whatever it takes to make that happen. I could go on and on about how proud I am of our work here at EPMS, but if I do, you won't have time to read all of the important announcements!

Let's Celebrate!

Congrats to Natalie Miller

She has been chosen as EPMS Student of Year for her hard work and dedication to the community through her service with the Interact Club. Natalie truly enjoys giving back to her community and embodies the mantra, "Service above Self".  She volunteers to coach a volleyball team for aspiring young players and has donated many hours to the Iron Girl competition over the last 4 years, by providing support to young girls as they compete in a swim/bike/run competition.  She also volunteers at local events and is happy to lend her time to help anyone who needs her.  Natalie and Ms. Okayama - our 2014-15 teacher of the year, are pictured below.

Kudos to our School Technology Specialist Anne Sexton who has been selected to serve in the CIO STS Council for Fulton County Schools. This council will help to advise, gather information, and make major decisions about technology initiatives for the next several years in our district. Way to go Ms. Sexton!

Informational Items

IMPORTANT ITEM

Tomorrow is the last day to declare your candidacy for the LSGC. If you are interested in running for a position on the School Governance Council, please complete and submit a Candidate Declaration Form.  Forms can be found at the school's front office or on the district website.  Please note that the forms are accessed at the bottom right corner, and there is a separate link for parents and teachers.

WEB Program

Have you heard about our WEB Program yet? WEB stands for "Where Everybody Belongs." This is a program that will begin next school year, where a select group of our 8th grade students will serve as Peer Mentors for our incoming 6th graders through their advisement classes. To kick off this wonderful program, we will start the year by holding a separate Information Day for our 6th graders! That's right! This year's 6th grade orientation will be held early, on July 31st, 2015 from 7:00am - 3:00pm. Parents are encouraged to provide transportation and take advantage of the opportunity to handle "normal" information day items such as paying fees, etc, though sweep buses will be provided. This information day will give all of our 6th graders a day to interact with one another, learn more about middle school and begin to build relationships with their assigned peer mentors. So, 5th grade parents, mark your calendars now for this special day!

Community Cares Event

Our annual Community Cares Title I Event will be held May 12th from 5:00 - 6:15pm in the Media Center - just before the concert begins at 6:30pm. This is an important event where staff and community members work together to determine the needs of our school and how we can best serve ALL of the students at EPMS. We hope that you can attend. Click here for more details.

Early Release Days

Our Early Release Dates have been approved! We worked hard to pair our dates with holidays and workdays to maximize time for our families. Don't forget that the first half of every one of these dates will be an Authentic Learning Day, packed with activities in the local community to bring learning to life! Our dates will be September 4th; October 8th; November 20th; February 11th; March 9th; & April 1st . Our tentative release time will be 12:55pm. This may flex by 5 or 10 minutes pending transportation schedule. Would you like to learn more about the requests for flexibility next year? Visit http://school.fultonschools.org/ms/elkinspointe/Pages/LSGCHome.aspx where all LSGC information is available, including the proposals and details for flexibility at the bottom of the page.

Accelerated Math opportunity!

Any student who plans to attend Elkins Pointe (2015-16) is eligible to take the Acceleration test for math.  The test is on May 16th (Saturday) at 9a.m., in the cafeteria. Bring number 2 pencils, a bottle of water, and a light snack. Calculators are not allowed.  There are two tests: you must score an 80% or above on the first test to qualify for the second test.  Tests are scored electronically, so if you do not qualify for the second test, you will be allowed to call your parents for a ride home.  A second opportunity will be offered on August 3rd, for students who did not qualify.

Roswell High school wants you!

End of Year Information

As we wrap up the school year, it is time to start thinking about getting that "golden ticket" so that you can bypass the lines on Information Day. Stay tuned for more information to come, but for now, please familiarize yourself with the immunization requirements and remember that the process for address verification is going to be simplified next year for the entire district. More to come!

For those of you eager to understand the schedule for the last day of school, please click here for a detailed schedule of the event. Stay tuned as we get closer for details on check out procedures and other important items. Remember that 6th and 7th grade awards are limited to students receiving specific honors, whereas the 8th grade ceremony will include every 8th grade student.

8th Grade Parents, as you know, there are several special events for our 8th grade Titans during the last couple of weeks of the year. Please click here for some details provided to you by our PTSA about our 8th grade finale activities.
