This week at Elkins Pointe

Hello, Titans!

Well once again we had another short week, but we packed it with celebration and instruction! Our administrative team beat the weather to Chicago last week and attended an all-day conference at Adlai Stevenson High School, the birthplace of DuFour's work with Professional Learning Communities. They returned refreshed and even more excited about the work we do at EPMS. I must say that every day I am impressed with our administrative team, their investment in your children, their ability to think in terms of innovation to serve the needs of our Titans, and their devotion to this staff. The three of them, with the addition of an Administrative Assistant this year, are accomplishing great things, and I cannot wait to see the work they will continue moving forward.

Let's Celebrate!

BIG NEWS!

On Friday we learned that we have been awarded the entire amount for our Seed Fund Request by the Fulton Education Foundation. This is all thanks to the hard work of our staff and our Local School Governance Council, who designed such a fabulous plan for implementation. What will this grant money mean for your students? It means that ...

  • We have funding to train our General Education Teaching staff to become Talented & Gifted Teachers.
  • We have funding to train the remainder of our teaching staff in Project Based Learning Strategies.
  • We have funding to train our own teachers to become trainers in both of the above areas.
  • We have funding to pay for the school buses on Early Release Days (ERD).
  • We have funding to pay for the field trip buses on the first ˝ of ERD, for Authentic Learning Trips in the Roswell area.

This is SUCH exciting news and will make for a high level of rigor and engagement in all classes at EPMS.

21st Century Learning Corner

by Anne Sexton, School Technology Specialist

Soon the sounds of construction will be filtering from our Media Center! We are in the process of creating a Video Production Lab, complete with new recording equipment, mixing equipment, and iMac computers for post production of digital content.

Why is this important?  As students move beyond the basics and begin embracing the "Super Skills" of the 21st Century classroom:  critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity, we need to be ready with the tools to help them grow in these areas.  By producing video and audio projects which pose questions and propose solutions, students are demonstrating all 4 of these elements. No matter the subject area, the process of research, treatment, scripting, and capturing digital assets develops skills students will need in high school, college, and beyond. We are excited for this opportunity to develop students into strong digital citizens! Stay tuned for pictures as construction gets underway!
