This week at Elkins Pointe

Hello, Titans!

Happy Monday, everyone! We had a week packed with things to be proud of, from District Honor Band  to spelling bees to a packed house for Saturday School and our Honors Breakfasts! Our Titans are working hard and performing their best on a regular basis.

Let's Celebrate!

Teacher and Employee of the Year

Congratulations to our Teacher and Employee of the Year:

Jennifer Okiyama & Ida Ward!...

Techie Titans rock!

All of our students performed well at the FCS Technology Competition (see results here). A special Kudos to Andrea Billeter and Priya Soneji who are moving on to state after placing 1st in their categories!

Guest Speaker

We are excited to announce a guest speaker for 7th grade on February 18th. In honor of Black History Month, master storyteller Rob Cleveland  will share tales about High John the Conqueror, one of America's first folk heroes.  This will be a fun learning experience that will introduce the students to many different cultures and stories.

Author Sharon Draper to Visit EPMS

Congrats to Ms. Sims for inviting author Sharon Draper to visit with her reading students.  Ms. Draper has been honored as the National Teacher of the Year, is a five-time winner of the Coretta Scott King Literary Awards, and is a New York Times bestselling author.  Students who have Ms. Sims for Reading have read at least one if not more of her books. (Personally, this former English teacher is completely "geeked out" that she will be here!) Ms. Draper will share some of her works, experiences, and give students advice on becoming better writers.  This visit will take place on Friday February 20th and will be for 8th graders.

Spelling Bee

Cole Newberry represented EPMS well at the Spelling Bee on Saturday. He made it to the top 25 for the entire school district. So proud!

Geography Bee

We are proud of our and 6th grader Sydney Demings (1st place) and  8th grader Mason Griffith (2nd place) from the EPMS Geography Bee. Now we wait to see if they move onto the next level of competition. Stay tuned!

Go UNC!!

Congrats to Ms. Veilette whose college swag door decorated  for her alma mater (University of North Carolina @ Chapel Hill) took 1st place!...

Rotary Teacher Exchange Program

We are super excited for teacher Annie Marmiol, who has made it to one of two finalists for the Roswell Rotary Argentina Teacher Exchange Program! As a finalist for Teacher of the Year, I believe she is an excellent candidate ... now we just wait to see!
