This week at Elkins Pointe

Good day, Titans!

I hope that all of you enjoyed your winter break and came back to us refreshed and ready for the second half of a great year! Our first week back has been busy and packed with fun. Just yesterday afternoon, we celebrated the first Monday of the year with a brief opportunity for music, fun, and fellowship at the end of the day. We played music throughout the school and allowed students an opportunity to "just be kids" in the hall for a bit at the end of the day. Beach balls were bouncing around, and the students had a great time socializing and having fun with their teachers and each other. We look forward to our next Titan Up celebration soon and hope that the weather will cooperate so that we can do something on our Titan Field. We have lots to celebrate and plenty of events and news coming up, so let me get to it.

Let's Celebrate!

Student Growth Percentiles

JUST IN: We would like to congratulate the following teachers for being part of the top 25% of student growth percentiles for the entire school district in 2014! Helen Blaine, Jillian Kalick, Katie Ray, Elliot Kinberg, Meredith Tongue, Daylee Tapia, Stacy Stiffler, Kristine Allen, Joanne Martin, Anu Krishna, Lindsay Meekhof, Kathryn Kersey, Ana Hale, and Rossie Kennedy! We are so proud to have these teachers as part of the Titan Team!

Kudos to Janie Pan

Janie Pan placed 2nd chair in the state for All State Band this past weekend! This means that Janie is one of the top four clarinet players in the state of Georgia!

Congratulations Alexis Neely

Alexis Neely won at the district level for the Lion's Club Peace Poster contest during our last week of 2nd semester. She will be recognized for her talent and hard work on January 19th.

Congratulations to the Builders Club!

They raised $320 which equates to over 900 meals at the Atlanta Food Bank.  This awesome club didn't stop there.  They also collected over 70 coats for people in need.

On Pointe News

We are so very proud of our On Pointe students!  These hardworking students completed their first semester of course work, which equates to an entire year of 8th grade.  Upon completion of their second semester course work, they will attend high school as sophomores.  Now that's the way to Titan up!

Basketball News

Are you ready for some basketball?  Our first basketball game is at home against Ridgeview on January 14th.  Game time is at 5pm.  Girls play first and then boys follow.  Click here for season game schedule and practice times. Admission is free and we want to encourage everyone to attend!  Girls' games start at 5:00 pm and boys' games begin immediately following.  Concessions will be open for snack purchases. In addition, the PTSA will be selling "Spirit Ribbons" to support the teams and school spirit, on Wed. Jan. 14 in the atrium before school, 8:00-8:45 am and also at the Concessions stand before and during the games.

Spirit Wear

Also, we'd also like to encourage students to wear their EPMS spirit wear (t-shirts, sweatshirts etc.) on game days throughout the season!  Spirit wear can be purchased online at http://ELKINSPOINTE.deco-apparel.com/

Parent Survey

Parents... we need your help!  As sent in a prior email, please take the time to complete this very important survey for us (http://apps.gadoe.org/schoolclimate/parents.nsf/Survey.xsp). Students will also be completing a similar survey through their science class.  The Georgia Parent Survey is also modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions.  A Spanish version will also be available.  The survey can be completed online (including smart phones).   Your responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.  Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.   Data from the Georgia Student Health Survey 2.0, the Georgia School Personnel Survey and the Georgia Parent Survey along with other sources will be used in the calculation of a School Climate Star Rating which is a diagnostic tool within the CCRPI.  It is extremely important for us to participate in each of the surveys.

Auditions

Performing Arts auditions for Milton High School will be here before you know it!  Please click here for dates and contact information.

Students: let your voice be heard

Students (grades 7-12)... would you like to meet with State School Superintendent elect Richard Woods?  He would like to get your advice to help him improve schools across the state.  What an awesome opportunity to be heard on a state level!  If interested, follow this link:http://www.gadoe.org/External-Affairs-and-Policy/communications/Pages/PressReleaseDetails.aspx?PressView=default&pid=260

Support Student Success

Are you up for a rare opportunity?  The Fulton County School System invites you to attend and engage in a conversation with Dr. Madeline Levine (New York Times bestselling author) to learn how schools and communities can best support and teach students to be authentically successful.  Click here to register and for more info.
