This week at Elkins Pointe

Happy Monday, Titans!

I hope that all of you are having a great week and are just as excited for the winter break as we are. Last week our staff continued our annual tradition of volunteering at NFCC for our holiday gathering. We enjoyed supporting such an amazing program, with all that they do for our community. As we wrap up this semester, we have lots of news to share and things to celebrate, so I will get right to it.

Let's Celebrate!

Student Growth Percentile Rankings

We are SO PROUD of our very own Mrs. Karen Jones - one of our On Pointe teachers. This year's Student Growth Percentile rankings came in, and as a result of her hard work, last year's 8th graders in On Pointe ranked third out of the entire state of Georgia for their growth percentiles on the 9th grade Literature Exam. Way to go!

ITBS Rankings

Our ITBS rankings came back as well, and I am pleased to share that we saw increases in both Science and Math this year - small increases, but we want to celebrate every improvement, as it's just more evidence that we are doing the right work!

Titan Tumbling

Great job Ms. Cote!  The Titan Tumbling team performed in the countywide tumbling exhibition at Ridgeview Middle School.  The girls put on an awesome performance in which they showcased a variety of talents.

Hour of Code

We are proud of all of our students who participated in An Hour of Code last week! They learned a lot about writing code and designing programs. What a great opportunity.

Boys' Basketball

Congratulations to over 70 boys who tried out for the basketball team!  Coach Cousin and Coach Mitchell said there was a lot of competition and are extremely pleased with their final selection.  Click here to see the Titan Boys' Basketball Team.  Game time for girls is at 5pm and the boys follow.

Giving Thanks to our Military

Way to go Ms. Rankin!  Her Language Arts classes wrote letters to the military for the Q100 radio station's letter writing campaign.  Leslie  received a response from a pilot in the Marines who received her letter on Thanksgiving Day. He shared with her how much joy the entire squad had as a result of reading her letter.

Informational Items

CCRPI Results Coming Soon

This week our CCRPI results come out, and while the information is still embargoed, I am happy to tell you there are areas for celebration as well as focus and attention. Please stay tuned for a detailed email from me when the data goes public.

PTSA Time!

The General Membership meeting will be on Dec. 16th in the Media Center at 6pm. The purpose of the meeting is to elect our nominating committee.  Click here for additional PTSA information.   You are welcome to stay after the meeting to enjoy our band concert, in the gym.

Teacher Workday January 5

Don't forget that the Monday after winter break is a teacher workday. Students return to begin first semester on Tuesday, January 6th.

'Tis the Season

Don't forget that we have two collections taking place this week, both sponsored by our On Pointe Builder's Club. We are collecting gently used coats in the office, and on this Friday, the last day before the break, we are going to host a "holiday hat day" where students can donate a dollar (or more) to wear a hat for the day. All proceeds from this fundraiser as well as the recent pajama day will go to the Atlanta Food Bank to help feed the homeless during this holiday season. We appreciate your support!

Exam Schedule

Seen here is the Final Exam schedule for the end of the semester. Please remember that all three grade levels will have exams during this time. Of particular note:

  • 6th and 7th grade will take their final exam of the semester, and 8th grade will take a cumulative exam for the entire semester.

  • In addition, some subjects may give exams that are cumulative in nature, such as Math, due to the nature of their curriculum.

  • Some of our 6th and 7th graders are taking field trips as well, which is why students of certain teachers will take their exam for a certain period a bit early.

  • Please make sure that all students are present for exams, and note that any absences without a doctor's note or principal permission will be unexcused.
