This week at Elkins Pointe

Hello, Titans, and Happy Monday.

It's hard to believe that we only have 9 days of school left before Winter Break, isn't it? Just this morning I was talking with a teacher about how many of our 7th graders have already had their growth spurt for the year, and they are starting to both behave and look like young adults. My, how time flies! As always, we have been busy, busy, busy and have LOTS to celebrate. I made it into a good number of classrooms last week and am pleased to say that  even during my 3:45pm visits Friday I saw students were focused and giving their best as we wrap up first semester. One class in particular that knocked my socks off was Ms. Kersey's 8th period class (pictured here), who were having fun with Math and calculating concepts through games. Excellent to see such engaging lessons - even late on a Friday when the students are eager to go!

Let's Celebrate!

Congratulations Jr. Eagles

While we have certainly been talking about it around here, last week I did not have the details in time to give a HUGE ROUND OF CELEBRATION for The 7th Grade Jr Eagles, who beat the Hillgrove team 48-16 to win the GMSAA 7th Grade Championship - the first one won by a Milton team! We are so proud of our Eagles!

Congratulations Johnson Sensei

We are proud to announce that our very own Miyuki Johnson has been selected as a Difference Maker for Fulton County Schools! Learn more about her and her journey to becoming a stellar Japanese teacher here: http://youtu.be/67TjiDcYfGs

Lady Titans Basketball

Congratulations to all of the girls who tried out for the basketball team!  Coach Cousin and Coach Mitchell said there was a lot of competition and are extremely pleased with their final selection.  Please click here to see the Lady Titans Basketball Team!

Robotics Club

We are so proud of our Roboteks Robotics team who did an excellent job by winning  the 2014-2015 L.E.D Winning Alliance Captain award. With this we are qualified to compete at State level on February 14th!

On Pointe News

Last week our 8th grade On Pointe students visited the high schools and actually shadowed a student for part of the day. Such a great opportunity for these special students who begin their high school classes in January to see what high school will be like next year. Thank you to RHS and MHS for coordinating this opportunity.

Chorus Concert

Our Chorus Concert last week at RHS was "spectacular" - to quote Dr. Bearden!

Informational Items

Boys' Basketball

Boys' 7th & 8th grade basketball tryouts will continue on Tuesday, which is the last day for tryouts.  Stay tuned next week for the boys' and girls' game schedules.

Technology Competition

Does your child show an interest in computer/technology related projects?  If so, please have him/her see Ms. Lindesay in Room A152 or e-mail her at lindesay@fultonschools.org.  Fulton County's Annual Technology Competition will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Westlake High School.  The registration window is from January 6th-12th.  Click here for more information

Exam Schedule

Seen here is the Final Exam schedule for the end of the semester. Please remember that all three grade levels will have exams during this time. Of particular note:

  • 6th and 7th grade will take their final exam of the semester, and 8th grade will take a cumulative exam for the entire semester.

  • In addition, some subjects may give exams that are cumulative in nature, such as Math, due to the nature of their curriculum.

  • Some of our 6th and 7th graders are taking field trips as well, which is why students of certain teachers will take their exam for a certain period a bit early.

  • Please make sure that all students are present for exams, and note that any absences without a doctor's note or principal permission will be unexcused.

Chamber Orchestra

Don't miss out! Mr. Gamba's students will host a series of Chamber Orchestra performances over the next few weeks.  Performance times vary to accommodate your schedule. Click here for times and locations.

STAR Assessments

When we return from winter break, all students will take the STAR Assessment. This assessment is an important checkpoint to see how our students are performing in Math and Reading. This data is used by teachers for assignments and grouping, and administration uses it for selecting courses and Saturday workshops for students second semester. Please encourage your student to take their time and take it seriously.  8th grade  will test on Wednesday, 7th grade will test on Thursday,  and 6th grade will test on  Friday. Thank you for your support.

EPMS Night at the ASO

February 7th will be here before you know it!  On this date, Mr. Gamba will host the 11th annual Elkins Pointe Night at the ASO!   Did you know?  The Atlanta Symphony is one of the world's premiere Orchestras and they have been very generous with our school. This concert will feature David Coucheron, performing the Bruch Violin Concerto.  Who is Mr. Coucheron?  David Coucheron is the concert master of the ASO, which makes this a must see!  Click here for ticket ordering and additional information.  See you there!
