This week at Elkins Pointe

Hello Titans, and Happy Monday!

Last week was such a great week, full of fun and stellar instruction. I was in lots of classrooms, and I got to see some truly creative teaching, pushing our students to think for themselves and have fun while doing it. Pictured here was one of my visits, where Mr. Rodriguez had his students actually use boats to map out the conquests of the explorers they were studying in 8th grade, while they shared the importance of their discoveries. Mr. Diaz and Ms. Smoller had their students doing Math in the sunshine (see Twitter), and every corner I turned gave me something to smile about. We really do have stellar teachers; let's make sure we remind them of that every now and then.

Let's Celebrate!

Lady Titans Volleyball

Congrats to our Lady Titans on their win against Ridgeview Friday night. It was a great game, and true competition!

Movie Night

Wonderful turn out for our Movie Night this last Friday, the students had a lot of fun, and the costumes were a hit.

Pink Out!

We are pleased to announce that our "Pink Out" last Friday raised $350 for Breast Cancer Research.  Both students and staff participated in the event, with the staff pictured here. As always a great effort to support a worthy cause, way to TITAN UP!

Orchestra Concert

Our Orchestra performance was stellar, and the "spooky" song that 8th grade played was a real "scream."

Lowe Lane Community Carnival

Saturday's Community Carnival on Lowe Lane was a great turn out, with Roswell Community Church, Roswell PD, and Roswell FD showing up to support the community. Such a lovely day for it, too!

Informational Items

Fruit Delivery

Our fruit from the school fundraiser arrives NEXT WEEK! Fruit will be available for pick up as soon as possible upon arrival. Parents who wish for their students to bring their fruit home on the school bus will be required to send a note in to the school, so please think about how you want to handle that in the meantime. A phone blast will go home to all families for notification and directions when it arrives.

Snowboarding Trip

Has your child ever been snow-boarding? Would you like them to learn? To join fellow students on a trip? Click here for a unique opportunity that our Titans have, with registration starting now.

Accessing the Online Assessment System

Interested in extra resources for your child to study/practice their academics at home? Don't forget about the state's Online Assessment System. Students can access the system at  https://www.georgiaoas.org/servlet/a2l and simply need their GTID for both their username and password. Don't know your child's GTID? It is available in Home Access Center, or you can contact the school for the information.

8th Grade Savannah Trip

The final payment for the 8th grade GA Trip to Savannah will be due on Monday, November 3rd. This is an extension on the due date, to allow those who get paid over the weekend an opportunity to write their checks. New applications are still being accepted. Remember that payments are due to Social Studies teachers. Attached please find the forms for the trip, in English  and Spanish .

Note that students who do not participate in the Savannah trip will participate in a local field trip for a Walking History Tour of the Roswell area. More details and permission slip to come soon. The cost of this trip is covered by the school, so the trip is provided free to students.

Redistricting

Don't forget that there are several events coming up for parents to give input on the redistricting process. Click here for details in English and Spanish and get involved.

SPECIAL NOTICE

Please note that, moving forward, outside organizations who wish to advertise events or businesses to any Fulton County School will be required to submit their flyers/information through Peach Pass. Click here view the introduction letter and FAQ to learn more about it.

Community Opportunities

Save the date! The Bridges/North Atlanta Cotillion will start Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Country Club of Roswell.  We offer a dancing and manners program to 7th and 8th graders. We focus on traditional dances (waltz, fox trot) along with popular dances (shag, swing, freestyle, line, slow). Our manners include making first impressions, handshakes, eye contact, common courtesies for girls and boys along with telephone/technology etiquette. Our 8th grade program introduces Latin dances and manners that cover job interviews, dating and the ever popular Table Manners! New students are always welcome in 8th grade. Registration will open November 3rd. We look forward to meeting your child! For more information, please contact:

The teachers below are requesting help making their classrooms visually pleasing.  Are you available to help with a bulletin board, to tape up some projects or hang a few seasonal decorations?  Is your child the kind of kid that responds to a stimulating classroom?  If you can work a stapler, roll of masking tape, or cut paper with a scissor, this   project is in your wheelhouse!  Please email your teacher and let them know what date you are coming to make their classroom a thing of beauty!
