This week at Elkins Pointe

Hello, Titans,

We had a lovely week last week, full of celebrations, new clubs, and we are looking forward to another week packed with excitement and learning. With our last soccer game this week, away at Crabapple MS on Wednesday, it's time for us to change seasons and wrap up the first nine weeks of school. Hard to believe we are almost a quarter of the way through a school year already.

Let's Celebrate!

Congratulations Amy Cross!

Congratulations to our Social Worker Amy Cross for her hard work. She just received a grant for $500 to put towards improving attendance at Elkins Pointe Middle School. Way to go, Amy!

On Pointe Builder's Club

As we prepare for the Roswell Youth Day Parade on October 11th, The On Pointe Builder's Club is taking the lead as they build our float and run a fundraiser for Play It Forward, a local organization who provides support to athletes whose families are struggling financially and need assistance to stay engaged in sports. Tell your students to stay tuned for a Pajama Day coming up soon to help with this fundraiser.

REACH Mentorship Awarded

Student Mirian Rivera was the first to sign her REACH mentorship & scholarship agreement this Wednesday, as Governor Deal stood by her side and congratulated her

Advisement Clubs

We held our first day of Advisement Clubs this last Friday. All students received one of their top five choices from more than 20 options per grade level. We look forward to continuing these clubs every two weeks on Friday from this point forward.

Informational Items

Roswell Youth Day Parade

We are collecting candy for the Roswell Youth Day Parade. Can you help us out? The next time that you go to the grocery, please pick us up an extra bag or two of candy to be thrown during the parade. Don't forget to avoid lollipops (they are not so safe to throw into the crowd). Candy is being collected in the front office.

Fulton County Schools Parent Survey

On Monday, September 29, 2014, the Fulton County School District will begin the external review process prescribed by AdvancED.  As a key supporter of the work that Fulton County Schools is doing to promote the success of our students, we ask that you take part in a short, but important, survey.  These surveys are intended to provide our schools and district with important feedback about our efforts to create career- and college-ready students.  We thank you for your participation in this crucial review process, and look forward to your continued support in our efforts to create better outcomes for  all students.  In order to meet the requirements of re-accreditation, each school must meet these requirements. We will need your help to make this happen.

o    A minimum of 60% of current staff must participate
o    A minimum of 40% of current students must participate
o    A minimum of 20% of current parents must participate

In order to complete the survey, please go to:  http://www.advanc-ed.org/survey/public/0530556 Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Your honest opinion is appreciated.

Club Update

We are seeking donations for our 2014-2015 TITAN LEGO Club. I know that many of you have containers of Legos tucked away in an attic collecting dust. Why not donate them to us? This club encourages students to design and create ... developing creative thinking skills that apply to problem solving. If you have any to offer for our team project this year please send them to the EPMS office care of Ms. Herron or Ms.Cote. We are developing a LEGO depiction of TITAN Pride for display in the Commons Area.

The Academic Bowl team is accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year.  If your student has participated before or may  be interested this year, please have them see Ms. Smoller for an application.  Deadline is October 3 for application submission.

Teacher Help Sessions

Did you know that our teachers offer help sessions every week? Remember that the list of times is available on our school's website, or you can bookmark this link for future reference. Just be sure to let the teacher know that you are coming!
