Hellooooooo, Titans!

What an amazing week here at Elkins Pointe! We started celebrating before the week even began with lots of great news from the weekend that will be outlined in celebrations. Our Drama Club performances were wonderful, with the second night being a real shining moment! Several of our staff members got in on the act, and everybody thoroughly enjoyed it!

This week at EPMS

Lots to Celebrate this Week!

  • We are quite proud of our Roswell Rotary Interact Club, who raised just over $580 on Thursday for their End Polio campaign. Pictured here are a few of the students who helped us raise the funds, but it was certainly a strong effort from the entire club.
  • The Elkins Pointe Science Olympians earned first place in the Georgia State University Regionals on March 8, 2014. We competed against 21 teams from 17 other schools. Our own group was divided into three teams and all three earned numerous awards! We are now preparing for the state competition on March 22 at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta. Please congratulate all our team members and wish them luck at our next competition! Click here to see individual rankings and student names. Everyone would like to give a special thank you to Joanne Martin, who has worked closely with the group and given countless hours to their success. Thank you also to all of our parent coaches; we could not have done this without you!
  • Did you know that our Hoops for Heart fundraiser achieved an amazing success with $1,552.75 to donate to the American Heart Association?
  • Cassandra "Cassie" Manrique won first place at the state tech competition on March 8th in Macon, GA. Way to go, Cassie!
  • As you know, our ModelUN team did quite well two weekends ago in Savannah, GA. They are featured on our website. Be sure to check it out.
  • A huge thank you to our wonderful PTSA who threw a fabulous Staff Appreciation Week. The teachers were blown away by each and every special touch.
  • To celebrate a fantastic 8th grade basketball season, we will host our traditional 8th grade BBall game where the students take on the staff. This will be held on March 20th from 4:30 - 5:30 in the gym. We hope to see you there - don't miss out on the fun!
  • Congrats to Will Bentley who also qualified for Duke Tip's Center for Summer Studies based on his ACT Score.
  • We are so proud of all of our students. Does your child have something to celebrate? Be sure to let me know so that I can share it with the community. We are PROUD Titans!

Stay in the Loop:

  • Rising 9th graders for RHS: Course verification forms went home with students on Thursday of this week. These forms are due on Monday to Mr. Mitchell in Guidance. This is a critical part of the scheduling and budget process, not to mention students who return these forms are more likely to receive their requested electives. Thank you for supporting us with this process.
  • Hopefully you received the notice about our upcoming Local School Governance Council Meeting on March 21st. Just in case you did not, please find the agenda attached here.
  • Don't forget that our International Night is coming up on March 27th from 6:00 - 8:00. This is our biggest event each year, and this year promises to be the same. Volunteers and Food Check in will be 5:00. Doors will open for all at 6:00, with tickets being sold for food and purchase of crafts.

Not only will the trip be half the cost, but will include such exciting events as a visit to the beach and even a River Boat Cruise that includes a DJ and Dancing! Students will arrive in Savannah around noon on the 14th, visit historic sites such as Fort Jackson and the First African Baptist Church before checking into their hotel and dressing up for their night of dancing on the water! On the 15th, students will enjoy a tram ride to tour the city and monuments before heading to the beach where we hope to see Dolphins. After lunch, students will head home with a stop at the Air Force Museum in Warner Robbins. As you can see, this is a trip packed with adventure and plenty of opportunities to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Something to Think About:

Earlier this week I had the unique opportunity to visit Stevenson High School in Chicago, along with 4 other principals and our Area Superintendent Dr. Vic Shandor. As I was sitting at the conference and walking the halls of this school that is held up as a model for educators across the nation, I could not help but be proud of how far we have come in almost three years! With our School Governance Council starting up and the development of our Three Year Strategic Plan, the possibilities are endless! So my question for you is, how will you be involved in this process? As you can see by the LSGC agenda, we will have committees that include non-SGC members as well. These committees will help shape the work of our next three years. Interested in helping? You know where to find me.

Have a lovely weekend, Titans!
