Hello, Titans!

As always, a wonderful week at EPMS. Our basketball team was victorious once again Wednesday night, our band concert was lovely on Tuesday, and our Spring offering of Summer School got off to a strong start this week as well. Students are tuned in and buckled down, and our fantabulous staff is personalizing learning for your children every day. It's GREAT to be a Titan!

This week at EPMS

Let's Celebrate!

  • We are so pleased to announce that Johnson Sensei has been selected as a finalist for Teacher of the Year in the Northwest Learning Community. She will have her observations and interviews next week. We just know that she will knock their socks off!
  • We are looking forward to a lovely Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week next week. Just this morning, several students reminded everyone to wear their Hawaiian shirts on Monday to say "Mahalo" or Thank You to the teachers!

In addition to the spectacular events provided by our PTSA (see below), we have also hired Ageless Remedies for the day to provide them with chair massages during their planning periods as a special thank you from administration. Even if you can't volunteer to help PTSA, take a moment to send an email or write a note to your children's teachers. Those little notes mean so much!

  • We are pleased to announce that last year's No Boundaries yearbook was selected as an outstanding book and has two pages featured in Jostens Look Book.  A team of experts selected 426 yearbooks from approximately 3,000 submitted for consideration.
  • Three of our students will be in the upcoming Roswell High School Musical:  Thoroughly Modern Millie. We are so excited for Sally Blumberg, Lucas Rary, and Lucy Tschetter-Gaus. Be sure to attend and show your support! The show will be held on March 20th at 7:00pm, March 21st at 7:00pm, and March 23rd at 3:00pm in the Auditorium. You can purchase tickets by calling 770-552-4500 ext 123.  Reserved seating is $15 and General seating is $10.
  • Kudos to Mr. Seth Gamba, who has been accepted to present at next year's national conference for the National Association for Music Education. He will represent us well!
  • Our Model UN club performed quite well at the Model UN Conference in Savannah this week! Of particular note, The Estonia Delegation, Hamilton Hertz and Axel Robertet, earned Distinguished Delegation in the General Assembly. In addition, our Brunei Delegation, Perla Osta and Brianna Marshall, earned Honorable Mention in the General Assembly. Way to go!
  • Congratulations to 7th grader Morgan Pickett. Her family received notice from Duke TIP stating, "On the basis of a high ACT score, Morgan qualifies to attend Duke TIP's prestigious Center for Summer Studies." We are so proud of her!
  • Has your child recently been honored / recognized? I would love the opportunity to share the news! Email your good news to me at springmanm@fultonschools.org.

Information to Know:

  • On Thursday the 13th, our Interact Club is hosting an "End Polio" day - where all students are encouraged to wear purple and may donate a dollar to wear a hat. Additional donations will be accepted for this great cause as well. Collection will take place in the front atrium before school.
  • Please note that the Track Meet has been rescheduled for March 29th. Stay tuned for more details.
  • Also, remember that Georgia's immunization requirements have changed for children entering 7th grade and for students who are considered "new entrants" in grades 8-12.  Click here for more details.
  • A Community Meeting will be held on March 3, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Roswell North Elementary School (10525 Woodstock Road, Roswell) to discuss the new West Roswell Area Elementary School. The West Roswell Area Elementary School (official name to be determined)will be located at the intersection of Alpharetta Street and Thomas Drive in Roswell. The shopping center and residences currently at the site will be demolished to make room for the new school, which will initially open in August 2015 as the temporary home of Esther Jackson Elementary School. Esther Jackson Elementary is scheduled for replacement, and once it is demolished and rebuilt on its site, the West Roswell school will permanently open to students in August 2016.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Our CCRPI score from the 2012-2013 school year will be made public soon. As a result of the new calculations, many schools have scores that are significantly different from last year, often lower. The state has decided to re-calculate the 2011-2012 scores using the new rules so that parents will have a more accurate comparison - hence the delay in scores. When our scores go public, I will hold a parent meeting to explain everything in detail, so stay tuned. The score is currently embargoed, so I cannot tell you what it is. I can tell you that we still have work to do at EPMS, and the good news is that we were already doing the work before we even received the scores!

Something to Think About:

  • I received several emails from parents this week about additional cell phone applications, including Ask.fm, that can be used anonymously and lead to improper use including bullying and harassment. One evening I pulled out my own iPhone and ran a search in the App Store for "anonymous," and I was stunned at what I found. Parents, I strongly encourage you to do this. It will give you an idea of what is out there, how it can be used, and why it is so important for you to closely monitor your child's use of social media. Most importantly, these new applications come out almost daily. I recommend doing this every couple weeks so that you can stay up to date and protect your child from the dangers of social media. Together, we can help our students understand the significance of this issue.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend, Titans, I know that I will!
