Hello, Titans!

We have had a lovely week here at EPMS, filled with celebrations and music. Last night's chorus concert was spectacular, in our joint performances with Mimosa Elementary and Hembree Springs Elementary. Today our students are enjoying Hoops for Heart during Connections, and we are hosting an exciting basketball game tonight. All of this and our teachers have been able to get students focused on instruction so that they can catch up on missed time at school.

This week at EPMS

Lots to Celebrate!

  • Congratulations to all three of our Teacher of the Year Finalists: Jody Collins, Miyuki Johnson, and Karen Jones. All three teachers do an amazing job for your children every day.
  • We are pleased to announce that Miyuki Johnson and Denise Lewis have been named the Teacher and Employee of the year, officially. Both of these ladies are devoted to EPMS and making every day special for your children. When you see them, take a moment to congratulate them on this wonderful honor.
  • Our 7th and 8th grade Orchestra received straight superiors at the Large Group Performance Evaluation this week - the highest score possible! I was there for the performance, and they were amazing.
  • Congratulations to Emily Gallagher for her fierce performance at the FCS Spelling Bee. I am pleased to report that she made it to the final 20 schools represented on the stage (out of nearly 100). Way to go!
  • Our students performed wonderfully at the FCS Science Fair on February 9th! Honors included:
    • Kayla Underwood and Giselle Gelobter won 3rd place in Medicine and Health Sciences
    • Saif Ali, Rahil Patel, and Samin Islam won 2nd place in Microbiology
    • Laura Azzi and Tricia Libradores won 2nd place in Mechanical Engineering
      and.....
    • Ramtin Mahmoudkhani and Charles Fiske won 1st place in Environmental Sciences and will move on to the State level competition in March! (Pictured here)

    • Congratulations to all of these students and to Ms. Rossie Kennedy for her hard work!
  • Thanks to parent Lisa Cowles, the HSES Dads Club, and Amanda Hemley for their efforts to deliver office furniture and supply donations from a local business.
Informational Items:  (lots of information to share, due to calendar adjustments and Snow Days)
  • Student Make Up of Snow Days: Last night the board decided that the March 14th teacher workday will now be an instructional day where students are expected to be present. This will be the only make up day for students. EPMS will be offering extra help sessions and Saturday Schools, however, to help students who need the additional time to be on track for success.
  • CRCT Date Change: Last night the board also decided to push back CRCT testing to begin on April 22 and continue through April 28th. Please mark your calendars for these important dates and be sure that all students are present and prepared.
  • As a result of the above, several changes have been made to the EPMS Master Calendar to accommodate the changes and maximize instructional time. Please note these new dates:
    • May 1 - EOCT Testing for Coord Algebra / Analytic Geometry
    • May 1 - Band/Orchestra Trip to Orlando departs at 2pm
    • May 2 - Career Day for 8th graders (altered bell schedule for entire school 5,6,3,4,1,2,7,8)

    • The 8th GRADE DANCE is being rescheduled - date TBD, but it will be in May
    • The Scoliosis Screening has been rescheduled for March, date TBD
  • A Community Meeting will be held on March 3, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Roswell North Elementary School (10525 Woodstock Road, Roswell) to discuss the new West Roswell Area Elementary School. The West Roswell Area Elementary School (official name to be determined) will be located at the intersection of Alpharetta Street and Thomas Drive in Roswell. The shopping center and residences currently at the site will be demolished to make room for the new school, which will initially open in August 2015 as the temporary home of Esther Jackson Elementary School. Esther Jackson Elementary is scheduled for replacement, and once it is demolished and rebuilt on its site, the West Roswell school will permanently open to students in August 2016.
  • Our PTSA is continuing the Valentine's Day Gram Fundraiser for a few additional days due to the snow days. They will be selling candy and special treats including stuffed animals on Feb 25 and Feb 27 from 7:30-8:45am. Parents and students are welcome to purchase a treat for their Shining Star, or friend or treat yourself! Sales will be in the Rotunda and prices range from .50 to $2.00.
